Interesting and challenging journalistic piece from the Telegraph. The Eastern Front and Ukraine War is not really my field of expertise. However all the themes here, of underestimating your enemy, adapting and overcoming, adapting or repurposing elementary tech, the fruits of upskilling and training etc -are exactly those I've tried to share in videos from the ongoing Gaza War. I also like the way it's delivered, as massimo m and I always try to, without valorisation or praise but also a frank assessment of the enemy. Militaries consistently expend remarkable efforts in building an operational picture, a common knowledge base of the ground - terrain, weather, people, culture, economics and societal factors before they conduct operations. Ground dictates everything - know it before and you're well ahead, ignore it at your peril. Whether it is finding trusted pathways upon which to send preparedness information or to pose questions to understand the needs of society, mapping the relationships and sectors / elements of society are key enablers significantly under-utilized in emergency management. There is no one in the public sector who should know more about the community than the emergency manager.
