A craftsman understands that his work is a legacy, a testament to the skill and care invested in every creation. That is true with the work we do at TheIncLab as well as the work being done in restoring our century-old headquarters building– El Pasaje. We are expanding, and renovations are well underway on the second floor. For almost 40 years, one incredible craftsman has been involved in restoring El Pasaje true to its original 1888 condition. Jim started out as a brick mason, a specialty needed in one of Tampa’s earliest brick buildings; his work continues today. He’s pictured here rebuilding the unique second floor window frames. The floor has been carefully chosen as part of a renovation project some years earlier and was a feature that the owners were particularly fond of. Supplied by Amarestone the brushed finish Chamesson limestone flooring had a beautiful texture and the client was conscious to ensure that this was not altered by the restoration process. Recreating the past: While today's tastes run to the more modern, when restoring the Thompson manor it was more appropriate to to emulate the elegance of the epoch. While this entrance foyer looks authentic, none of the elements actually are. In fact, the wood work was so extensive, and so customized, that we had to open a fully equipped wood shop to fulfill our needs, in a cost efficient way. The panelling is walnut, the fireplace mantle, which is solid travertine, was designed by Endrée, and imported. This one was, was only one example , of eight such mantle pieces brought in for both the Thompson and the Sparrow project. https://lnkd.in/eEhBrfaa

This residential and studio building for a cohousing group of ten parties marks a further step in the revitalisation of Werkhof L57, an ensemble of historic barracks, modern extensions and new structures that has evolved into a lively creative quarter over the past two decades. The new four-storey building occupies the plot between a recently completed structure in exposed concrete and an historic one made of brick. While its height and roof profile mediate between these two neighbours, its strictly rectangular floor plan respects the regular forms that comprise the former military compound. At the same time any rigidity in its volume is optically dissolved by the slightly undulating #stainlesssteel #cladding whose irregular reflection of the surroundings lends the #façade a quasi-fluid character.
