Can’t stop, Won’t stop. Testing, making, breaking and most of all - moving. Making pottery is a never ending cycle; chasing a glossier glaze, a more balanced mug… choose your vice. Running a pottery studio is much the same. We test things, break things, and sometimes throw things at the wall to see what sticks. Sunken Studio has three overlapping areas: Teaching, Membership and Production. To get each one running well is a mission, to get them all running well and playing nicely with each other is a challenge. Most members and students will tell you, we are not afraid to make changes, to make and strain systems, to evolve. Always driven by the same desire: to make the studio better for everyone, our members, students, clients and the team. We’ve recently been reviewing how the studio operates and have formulated all sorts of new plans. The next stage is to do a phased introduction and test the changes. We’ll tell you more as we go along.

There is a lot of debate on when is it a good time/grade to introduce Design to school students. Well, it’s never too early! Y3 students brainstorming on communities in their Design classes within their Inquiry Unit, How We Organize Ourselves? It is interesting to see that they define communities beyond geographical locations such as music community, sports communities and food lovers. #ibpypdesign #designeducation

Whilst investigating interfaces for children for my Bachelor's Thesis, I found it very curious that one of the main challenges when designing for children is that... ... it is designed by adults. The design will almost inevitably include elements we THINK will work well on children, a lot of the time basing it on our own childhood. In a lot of content you can see elements designed for children that look fitting but do not match the real world they live in, therefore, at least initially, they are more than likely to not recognise the elements nor understand their meaning. For instance, a lot of modern streaming channels for children represent a TV with two antennas. Whilst it looks cuter than a modern representation of a TV, the children do not really know what it represents simply because it is an item that does not exist in their world. #designforchildren

Remember Comic Sans? From a childhood favourite to a recurring joke in the design community, the font’s not had the best run of late. But for people living with dyslexia, its irregular quirkiness – what some might call its ‘ugliness’ – is actually its super power. That’s why Dyslexia Scotland, through Innocean, Berlin, decided to highlight the font’s ability to drive inclusion not just in design, but in society, for Dyslexia Awareness Month 2022 . ‘There’s Nothing Comic About Dyslexia’ targeted the world’s top designers with a multi-channel campaign that culminated in personalised social media messages challenging them to put Comic Sans front and centre in their work. The work even launched a brand new dyslexia-friendly typeface, Inconstant Regular. 35 million media impressions, 5 million in earned media reach, and more than 15,000 downloads of Inconstant Irregular later, and the campaign was a hit. Further to that, it helped 780 million people around the world feel more included in the designs they were seeing every day – proving function and beauty don’t have to be mutually exclusive. Unlock inspiration from the world’s best creativity, only on The Work | lovethework.com There’s Nothing Comic About Dyslexia | Dyslexia Scotland | INNOCEAN Berlin | 2023 🥈 1 Silver Lion 🎗️ 2 Shortlisted

Hey Everyone, If you've come across this post recently, awesome! If not, get ready because I'm about to share something that means a lot to me. From 2010 to 2019, the creative industries soared, growing over one and a half times faster than the wider economy, reaching a whopping £115bn and accounting for one in eight businesses! But here's the catch — the diverse range of creative talent we rely on are finding it harder to emerge, due to a gradual cut in funding for creative subjects in UK state schools since 2010. For personal reasons this tugs at my heartstrings because the Design Block at my Secondary School wasn't just a space; it was my sanctuary, it's the launchpad for many creatives to go off to college to study design. (Shoutout to my old Secondary school teachers Ms. Murray and Mr. Evans, who left an indelible mark on my creative journey). It saddens me to read about the decline in funding because, seriously, have you ever paused to look around? The patterns on your clothes, the wallpaper that brightens your space, the billboards guiding you to work, the branding on your coffee cup, the music that moves you, and the shows you binge-watch — ALL are crafted by the brilliant minds of creatives! Let's take a collective moment to open our eyes to the beauty around us. If you believe, as I do, that Creative Education deserves our support, click the link below and add your signature to the petition. https://lnkd.in/eJBTfcxU Let's make some noise and remind decision-makers why #creativitymatters! Join me in supporting the cause with the Creative Industry Alliance. Let's keep young creative dreams alive! #creativitymatters #makecreativitymatter #creativeindustryalliance

Creativity is flexible response to the unexpected. Everything contains the unexpected. Nothing is entirely predicatable (if you're paying enough attention). No two conversations are ever exactly the same ( if you think they are, you're not paying attention). No two projects bring together exactly the same circumstances or objectives. No two people are identical. Not even you are the same from day to day. Life continually evolves. You can use a fixed perspective and demand the world conforms to your expectations, or a creative perspective and respond to each moment as it actually is. Creativity is fearless. Creativity is embracing reality. Creativity is the secret sauce that helps you thrive, whatever the world throws at you. In this article, I offer 12 deep-level personal changes you can embrace today that will enhance your creativity. Get yourself a coffee, settle down to read, change you life. Reading can do that.
'How To Grow Your Creativity' I wrote this a couple of years ago but I think it holds up well. So this morning I've edited and updated it and hope it's of use to you! https://lnkd.in/e-Vgmi78
