The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ Post

✈️ “As a fighter pilot and airline captain, I learned that while I could not choose the adversity I would encounter during a flight, I could choose how I prepared and how I reacted. What is needed during times of crisis is calm and clear-headed trust. “How do we do this? “We face the facts and return to the fundamentals, to the basic gospel principles, to what matters most. … “Focus on the things you can do and not on the things you cannot do” (Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf, general conference, Oct. 2020). Focusing on what we can control allows us to put our limited time, energy, and resources toward things that bring us joy. Faith in Jesus Christ will enable us to let go of what we can’t control and trust that He will guide us no matter what happens. If you find yourself upset by things beyond your control, these strategies might help. Read Elder Uchtdorf’s full talk here: https://lnkd.in/g7RQS6EN #control #mentalhealth #careersuccess

I was thinking about Neil Armstrong and his uncanny ability to respond in life-threatening situations, such as the Gemini 8—Atlas Agena docking, which went into a violent spin because of a thruster malfunction, and then during the Apollo 11 landing, when seconds were left before an abort because of a low fuel level. Neil knew the spacecraft intimately so that he could respond instantly and correctly. We can respond wisely by intimately knowing our spiritual training manual—the scriptures—and by being masters of our bodies and minds with the help of Jesus Christ.

I see so many people focus on what they cannot control in life. They delegate responsibility to others, blaming rather than owning. Awesome reminder to focus on what we control instead of fretting about the things we cannot.
