Today is Day Four (4) of the International Week of the Deaf and today's theme is: How To Put Deaf People On The Agenda. In a world that thrives on communication, the voices of the deaf community often go unheard. Yet, the importance of putting deaf people on the agenda cannot be overstated. It's a matter of not just inclusivity, but of recognizing the vibrant culture, unique perspectives, and the untapped potential that deaf individuals bring to our society. In this discourse, we'll explore why we must make room for their voices and experiences, for in doing so, we enrich our collective tapestry of humanity.

Why do we celebrate Australian sign Language (Auslan Day) on 13th April? Individuals with SATB2 Associated Syndrome may have absent or limited speech, and therefore are given opportunities to socially convey their needs, wants, feelings through different multi modal systems of communication. One of these systems of communication opportunities, include Auslan. You may be asking, what is Auslan? Auslan is the sign language used by the majority of the Australian Deaf community. Now, whilst the majority of people living with SATB2 Associated Syndrome are not deaf but may have levels of hearing loss, they prefer to communicate using sign language and see this method very easily adapted to their body language. Check out the links below to find out more about Auslan, via Deaf Connect #SATB2 #multimodality #Speechandlanguagetherapy #nonverbalcommunication #nonverbal #raredisease #Auslan
Happy Auslan Day from everyone at Deaf Connect! We have some fantastic resources for you to download, print and share with family and community to recognise the contributions of Deaf individuals and promote equal access to information through sign language. Learn more: https://bit.ly/3Tyi6eH

The way that we create more empathy and understanding of society is less by telling everybody that they need to have more empathy and more by showing a better understanding of each other at a practical level.

Thank you The Female Quotient for always bringing out the best in women. Jane Fonda’s speech is a beautiful illustration of #Mutuality, the ability to learn about one’s self and the world through the eyes of another; reciprocity; two-way empathy. Mutuality is one of the four core differentiators introduced in the book, The Sixth Level—a new leadership model that leaves command-and-control behind—and elevates us to The Sixth Level! Awareness and what you do with it can be a profound and powerful thing. During her acceptance speech for best actress in 1979, Jane Fonda’s role in “Coming Home’' moved her to acknowledge the disabilities of the deaf on a very big and public platform—the Academy Awards, which didn’t offer closed captioning at the time. A few years later in 1982, The National Captioning Institute implemented live-captioning for the first time at the year’s Academy Awards, nonetheless!

Equipping families and educational organizations with skills and resources to help Black boys with disabilities realize endless possibilities.
Stop telling Black boys with disabilities there is only one way to success. Stop equating success to Whiteness. Our Black boys with disabilities are learning an informal curriculum that conformity is the end goal as opposed to academic success, freedom, individuality, and collectivism. COMMENT What are your thoughts about conformity in our communities and schools?
