In The Graduate, Dustin Hoffman was told the future lies in one word, "Plastics!"; that is the future! In the energy world, in my opinion, the future is renewables AND NUCLEAR! IF companies can prove "walk-away" safe reactors AND reduce costs through the development of modular components, small modular reactors will dot the landscape in the US in 10-15 years producing energy with zero carbon. Squeeze Film Damping (SFD) plays a vital role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of various mechanical systems. In nuclear steam generators, SFD comes into play when vibration levels or some instability increase tube motion. MPR Associates, Inc. structural and fluid dynamics analysis methods accurately model these components. As technology advances, further research and development in this area will continue to enhance the performance and reliability of these systems. #Modeling #Simulation

Take a look at my article! https://lnkd.in/eEQmGTdT 🎉 I am delighted to share the findings of my latest research publication in JOM (The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society) titled "Comparative Analysis of Wettability Characteristics in Developed SMAW Electrode Coating Fluxes: A Regression Model and ANN Approach"! 🎉 🔍 In this study, we embarked on a journey to enhance coating fluxes for SMAW electrodes, specifically tailored for nuclear power plant steel welding. Leveraging the innovative extreme vertices design methodology, we developed 21 unique flux compositions, predominantly comprising SrO-CaO-Al2O3-CaF2 fluxes. 🌟 Our results uncovered fascinating insights! The individual components CaO, CaF2, and the binary interaction of Al2O3 and SrO significantly influenced the contact angle and floatation coefficient. Furthermore, individual interactions of CaO, SrO, Al2O3, and CaF2 positively impacted the spread area. Notably, Al2O3 and SrO emerged as key players significantly affecting the work of adhesion. 🔬 These findings pave the way for optimizing SMAW electrode coating fluxes, enhancing efficiency and reliability in nuclear power plant steel welding operations. 📚 For a detailed check out the full article @https://lnkd.in/exHCF82r. Muography is a rapidly growing field within industrial NDT & we are delighted that David Mahon (Lynkeos Technology) is joining our seminar, ‘Inspection – non-conventional techniques’, in Aberdeen on 28 September, to explain the principles behind this innovative inspection technique. David’s presentation will be showcasing technologies & presenting various case studies from nuclear industry & built infrastructure inspection. Muography relies on the detection of natural particles called muons as they pass through structures. These muons are produced in the upper atmosphere & harmlessly pass through every object on the planet. By detecting how their paths are altered by structures, it is possible to build up accurate 3D density maps of the internal composition of structures that cannot be adequately inspected by more conventional forms of NDT. Simulation Friday - Globe valves, like other control valves, isolate and regulate fluid flow, giving them a critical role in nuclear power plants, petrochemical industries, and more. The valve performance and efficiency are often affected by cavitation, a phenomenon which involves the formation, growth, and collapse of vapor bubbles. In today’s #SimulationFriday video, we simulated a globe valve under three different conditions and predicted cavitation for each scenario. CONVERGE’s volume of fluid method with a cavitation model captured the transient phase change dynamics in the valve. In addition, CONVERGE’s Adaptive Mesh Refinement allowed us to automatically refine the mesh in regions where it was most needed, without excessively inflating the cell count.
