#Commsjobs Contributor, Strategic Communications Leader, C-Suite Business Partner, and Master Storyteller
What falls under the umbrella of #commsjobs? The scope of the corporate communications realm is gigantic, so I just try my best to identify and share opportunities that are valuable for my network, based on my experience working across multiple companies, industries, and regions. But… are “employee engagement” roles communication roles? What about “change management” roles? One that I really struggle with is… “internal marketing.” I tend to leave out roles related to Sales, CSR, Regulatory, Customer Service or Event Planning, but with so many creative job titles out there, curating #commsjobs sometimes can be a little tricky. My approach? I focus on roles in fields where a background in communications is (or at least should be) a requirement. Of course, I cannot read the job descriptions of every single one of the roles I share, but there are some conventions that, in general, are followed across companies and industries. For example: - Corporate Communications: Managing internal and external communications. - Public Relations: Handling public image and media relations. - Government Affairs: Engaging with government officials and stakeholders. - Investor Relations: Managing communications between the company and its investors. - Community Relations: Engaging with local communities and stakeholders. - Issues Management: Identifying and managing potential issues and crises. Am I missing any? What is the most hilarious job title you’ve seen out there for someone working in corporate comms? I would love to read your thoughts! And, if you are #hiring #commspros, don't get creative with the job title. Be clear about who you are looking for and the best candidates will come your way.

Hats off to the communications generalists: Kudos to those communications professionals who manage internal, executive, external, AND social media. Bonus points if they also wear a marketing hat while juggling all of that. I’m impressed. Not sure how you manage all of it. There can’t be enough hours in the day to get it all done. Yet, I see job openings for these generalist positions all the time, so someone’s doing it. I’ve had the good fortune of gaining skills and experience in these areas except marketing. Most recently, I’ve specialized in internal and executive communications, and I find this lane more rewarding. I enjoy engaging employees to help them feel more connected to their work and company. It’s an art and a science. I suppose a generalist would say the same thing about wearing multiple hats, doing what they do. It’s an art and a science. However, I can’t help but wonder how well they’re doing it - all of it - effectively. What do you think? Are you a communications generalist? How do you do it? #corporatecommunications #communicationstrategy #marcomms #generalist #artandscience #openforwork #openfornewopportunities #keepingitreal #thanksforreadingthisfarhaveaniceday

In high-stakes world of public relations (PR), Imagine this: You're working your tail off to land that big client or score that major media placement, but instead of high-fives and kudos, you're met with passive-aggressive comments and side-eye from your colleagues. It's like everyone's out for themselves, and teamwork is just a foreign concept. And let's not forget about the pressure. In an industry where success is measured in column inches, the stakes are sky-high. Deadlines loom large, clients demand perfection, and burnout is just a fact of life. It's enough to make even the most seasoned PR pro question their career choices. But perhaps the most insidious aspect of work culture in PR is the lack of trust. When your colleagues are more concerned with covering their own backsides than supporting each other, it creates an environment of paranoia and suspicion. Who can you really trust when everyone's playing their own game? It's like a poison that seeps into every aspect of your life, sapping your energy, and making you dread every day.But here's the thing: it doesn't have to be this way. We can – and should – demand better. By calling out toxic behavior, fostering open communication, and supporting each other as colleagues and human beings, we can create a healthier, happier work environment for everyone.
