Your resume should have the most critical information that is relavant to the job you want listed first! For most people, this is experience, even if it's an internship. If you graduated recently and your work experience is from a summer or part time gig not related to the job you want, then put your education at the top. Objectives and summaries can be removed altogether, and a list skills should be pushed to the bottom. I see tons of resumes and while I analyze almost all that come to me, many employers don't want to waste time on an objective or your degree from 2002.

Applied 100+ internships, still got no response. Yes, you heard that right. ✅️ Even after applying over 100+ internships I got no response from a single one. And, today, I am writing this post to share what I feel about it. Cold response and emails got me really devastated. Recruiters should at least respond to mails even if it is rejecting a candidate so that we can improve ourselves and get better opportunities ahead. But, simply ignoring a candidate's mail who was full of astonishing and enthusiasm for the opportunity that will be provided, cold mails simply lowers our confidence. I request recruiters to not ignore a candidate's mail simply because he/she doesn't fit the criterias. Ps- I was given the opportunity to be the host of a college event. Thought of sharing this picture 📸 😇 #opportunity #recruitment #goals

Award Winning, International Consultant. Former NCDA President and ICF Board Member. Certified DiSC and Five Behaviors Practioner.
This week, I kicked off my Internship Bootcamp for Federal Opportunities. What an amazing time we had. Check out these five reminders to put you ahead of the game. 1. Start Now. Although we're are in early October, program deadlines are on the books, for example US State Dept 's Summer Internship Program is due Mon., Oct 9th @ 11:59. 2. Gather Documents. Typically speaking an unofficial transcript is required. Scan it and save it. Repeat each semester. 3. Read Carefully. Not all applications include "preview questions", but some do. Questions will include easy to answer, yes/no and other questions will require an essay. Your responses will play heavily in the selection process. Allow time to think and develop your responses which could be 1,000 words. 4. Resume Builder - ALERT! There are two ways to make your resume available in USAJobs.Gov. One option, candidates can store up to five resumes. The other option is to create your resume using the resume builder. Option One - quick and easy, point and click. Option Two, the first time you use it takes alot more time than simply pointing and clicking. The announcement will indicate the acceptable format. 5. Include Cushion. Deadlines typically are at 11:59 PM (EST). SUGGESTION: Upload early @ 6 pm, 7 pm, 8 pm. Internet interruptions, forms failing to upload are the rule and not exception. Responding to a federal opportunity takes time and it is heart breaking to miss the deadline by a minute or two. Late is late and obtaining an exception after the fact is highly unlikely. Keeping these five tips in mind will help students, graduates and recent grads to respond with efficiency and confidence. Following these five suggestions and preparing in advance lessens the stress and lays the foundation for positive job search habits that will pay rewards for years to come. @StateDepartment #federalinternships #summerinternships #paidinternships

The best approach for your resume is to highlight the most impactful items and either condense or remove the rest.
I don't like to advise others on LinkedIn, but since I am getting numerous emails from students, I wanted to share this. Undergraduate Students: Mentioning 20 internships in your second and third year from all places across the world doesn't look good. It actually reflects poorly on your resume. Focus on one project and do a good job, which can eventually lead to a publication/patent or some product development.

If I could go back to first year, there’s so many things I’d do differently … I’m currently in my last-ish semester of final year and I’ve been lucky enough to realize a lot of things early which drove me to get my internships and volunteer works as well as get involved in school. But one thing I would do differently if I could go back to first year would be; ✨📍actively seeking career guidance I have a grain of regret for failing to utilize career counseling services and guidance early on. The first time I sought guidance was in the beginning of my third year, and it was to get a resume review which completely changed my resume and helped me get my summer internship in London. Every university have career development services or student professional development services, these people and resources can help you make informed decisions about their career path and help you make significant changes to your resume and cv. They can even recommend you for internships. It’s not too late if you haven’t sought out these services yet, do it now, I promise it’ll benefit you a lot 😊. #careerdevelopment #studentdevelopment #zulshare
