Facts:
1. India's semiconductor sector is projected to double in size by 2026, reaching $64 billion according to the India Electronics and Semiconductor Association.
2. This rapid growth hinges on having a qualified workforce. However, a report by the same association highlights the lack of skilled professionals in the field.
3. To bridge this gap, companies like Intel, AMD, and Applied Materials are partnering with institutions like IIT-Bombay. These partnerships involve initiatives like setting up research labs, sponsoring students, and even co-developing real-world projects with engineering teams.
While this focus on campus engagement is a positive step, some key questions remain:
1. Are these company-driven programs creating long-term, sustainable solutions, or are they simply fast-tracking recruitment for their own needs?
2. Does the focus on premier institutions leave out talented students from tier-2 and tier-3 colleges? Initiatives like Intel's "Unnati" program establishing data labs aim to address this concern, but wider accessibility remains crucial.
3. Is there a coordinated effort across the industry to establish a standardized curriculum or training program to ensure a base level of competency among graduates?
#Semiconductor companies in #India are accelerating their focus on campus engagement and building up fresh talent, even as the industry struggles with a lack of skilled professionals.

I recently participated in the DFT User meeting organized by NXP Semiconductors Semiconductors in Bangalore, where prominent speakers from various branches of NXP Semiconductors shared their insights. The conference featured numerous presentations and poster sessions, providing me, as an intern, with valuable takeaways that have significantly impacted my learning experience.
1) Conferences offer a comprehensive view of the industry and provide an opportunity to interact with influential leaders😎 in the field.
2) Exposure to different and emerging technologies, along with their associated challenges, 💪enhances our understanding of the domain.
3) While interns may find it both exciting☺️ and occasionally tedious to absorb new information😀, the overall learning experience is invaluable.
4) Poster sessions, akin to paper presentations, contribute to a deeper comprehension of the subject matter.
We interns often face challenges in grasping certain concepts, as understanding comes with experience and one's approach to problem-solving. This post is intended to highlight that, regardless of the difficulties, we interns remain committed to continuous learning in their respective domains. Whatever the future holds, our focus will remain steadfast on the journey of learning.

That’s great to hear about the positive impact of the CHIPS and Science Act on U.S.-based semiconductor manufacturing! The report from the Semiconductor Industry Association highlights the need to strengthen semiconductor engineering talent to prevent 67,000 jobs from being at risk.
SIA’s analysis reveals that 39% of the job gap (around 26,400 positions) will be in technical occupations, 41% (approximately 27,300 jobs) in engineering, and 20% (about 13,400 jobs) in computer science.
Indeed, semiconductors play a crucial role in almost all technologies today, and with a projected 5% increase in chip usage over the next decade, closing the talent gap is essential for success in the manufacturing industry.
Moreover, in places like Penang, often referred to as the “Silicon Valley of the East,” the need for such talent is equally critical, as it applies to various multinational corporations based there.
At DiGiT @ WOU, we extend a warm welcome to aspiring learners interested in filling this gap by enrolling in our BDSE program which is Bachelor in Software Engineering (Application Development).
Join us now to seize the abundance of job opportunities available!

Greeting to all,
💫 I'm delighted to share a project that I have worked during my summer internship.
𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐔𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞: 𝐔𝐀𝐑𝐓 protocol using 𝐏𝐮𝐓𝐓𝐘 emulator and 𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐲𝐬 3 𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐱-7 𝐅𝐏𝐆𝐀.
𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐜𝐨𝐥 : UART stands for Universal Asynchronous Receiver/Transmitter. It's a communication protocol used for serial communication between two devices.
𝐀𝐬𝐲𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 : In UART communication, data is sent bit by bit over a single communication line without a clock signal.
𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 : UART typically sends data in packets that include a start bit, data bits (usually 8 bits), optional parity bit for error checking, and stop bits.
𝐁𝐚𝐮𝐝 𝐑𝐚𝐭𝐞 : Baud rate refers to the speed at which data is transmitted in bits per second. Both devices communicating via UART need to be set to the same baud rate for successful communication.
𝐔𝐀𝐑𝐓 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬: The process involves sending and receiving data between two devices using a serial communication protocol.
𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐁𝐢𝐭 : The transmission begins with the sender sending a start bit (logic low) to signal the start of a data frame.
𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐁𝐢𝐭 : The sender then transmits the data bits (usually 8 bits) one by one, starting with the least significant bit (LSB) and ending with the most significant bit (MSB).
𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐁𝐢𝐭 : If parity checking is enabled, the sender calculates the parity bit based on the data bits and includes it in the transmission for error detection.
𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐁𝐢𝐭: The sender sends one or more stop bits (logic high) to indicate the end of the data frame and give the receiver time to prepare for the next frame
𝐔𝐀𝐑𝐓 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬: The UART receiver synchronizes with the incoming data based on the predefined settings like baud rate, data bits, stop bits, and parity.
By integrating FIFO (First in, First out) buffers into my project alongside the UART protocol, I successfully implemented a feature that allows me to keep track of the FIFO status, such as detecting when the FIFO is full or empty. This additional functionality enhances the management of data flow efficiency, effectively safeguarding against data loss and promoting seamless communication.
This project provided a fantastic opportunity to delve into the capabilities of VLSI platforms
Excited to apply these learnings to upcoming projects!
A huge thanks to Sudheer Reddy CEO of Sense Semiconductor & IT Solutions Pvt. Ltd. and chief operating officer Surya Trinadh Chodisetty and our internship mentor 𝐏.𝐓𝐞𝐣𝐞𝐬𝐡 for his constant support.

The Semiconductor Talk At PICT:
1/ - I Had The Opportunity To Give An Online Talk At The Pune Institute of Computer Technology (PICT): https://pict.edu/
- I Am An Alumnus Of PICT. I Graduated In 2011 (What - 13 Years Ago - Feeling Young).
- The Topic Was "Semiconductor Talk - Opportunities In Semiconductor Domain"
- Thank You To Prof. Mousami V. Munot And Prof. Mahesh Gangarde For Arranging This Talk.
----
2/ - The Main Focus Of This Talk Was To Share Details With Students About The Type Of Career Opportunities It Presents.
- And, Also, An Overview Of How The Industry Turns Ideas Into A Mass Semiconductor Product.
----
3/ - With India (And Several Other Nations) Getting Ready To Speed Up The Design And Manufacturing Of Semiconductors In India.
- It Is Now More Than Important To Share Such A View With Students.
----
4/ - Few Take Aways:
-- Student Needs More Guidance On What Industry Is Looking For (Resume/CV Or Projects Or Internships Or Papers)
-- Undergraduate Curriculum In India Is Still Coursework Driven. Thus Not Helping Students To Opt For Manufacturing Focused Training Via Internship, Etc
-- Your University/College/School Location Matters For Semiconductor Career. If The Goal Is To Do Both Semiconductor Internship/Research And Coursework
-- I Should Learn How To Turn Off Markers. So The Audience Cannot Play Around With It (Reminded Me Of My Backbencher Days - Funny)
----
5/ - If Your College/University/School Is Looking For Someone To Share Insights About The Semiconductor Industry With The Students.
- Then, Please Feel Free To Reach Out To Me, And I Am Happy To Host A Voluntary Session: www.ChetanPatil.in/Contact
