July is Disability Pride Month, a time dedicated to honoring the strength, resilience, and unique identities of individuals with disabilities. For Shane, a public relations manager, celebrating this month is not just about personal reflection but also about fostering community and promoting understanding. "In my experience, recognizing Disability Pride Month and talking about how we’re differently abled can help others feel less alone. "When I hear people talking about having Tourette’s or a stutter like me, I feel this sense of camaraderie from the shared experience. Since I’m usually the only one in my professional and friend groups with tics, remembering there are others like me is super helpful." Shane's journey emphasizes the significance of visibility and community in embracing one's disability. "I recommend that anyone struggling to embrace their own disability to find a community of others who share a similar experience. Companies like State Farm, for example, have great employee resource groups. If you feel alone, resources like that can make you feel less so."
