I've seen the highs of success and the lows of tough decisions. It's a role that demands resilience, empathy, and relentless dedication. But let's be real—it can also be draining. The weight of responsibility, the constant balancing act, and the emotional labor involved can take a toll. That's why I believe companies need to invest more in their managers, not just from a development, productivity, or business perspective, but from a purely human perspective that considers their holistic well-being. Your manager's mental health impacts your people's well-being, and vice versa. We live within a system, and when one part of that system struggles, it affects the whole. Let's create environments where managers feel supported, valued, and understood. Psychological safety…here’s what I’ve learned after 20+ years in the field: It’s SO often overlooked. Ok maybe it’s just me and I place too much value here because I worked in behavioral health for more than half of my career…but come on. Everyone wants to feel psychologically safe right? Psychological safety refers to the belief that one will not be punished or humiliated for speaking up with ideas, questions, concerns, or mistakes. Sound familiar?? Research has shown that teams with high levels of psychological safety are more likely to: •Innovate •Collaborate effectively •Perform at a higher levels •Remain in their roles longer As leaders, it is our responsibility to create an environment where employees feel safe to be themselves, express their ideas, and take risks without fear of retaliation. Please be kind to your teams today. Allow them the space to speak up with ideas….and assume they have the best intent.
