What is a Solutionist? It’s someone who is a solver of problems or someone who makes a practice or occupation of solving problems. Last Wednesday was an incredible day as I had the privilege of accompanying our visionary CEO Olawale Adebiyi to the prestigious Lagos Business School, Pan-Atlantic University where he delivered an inspiring lecture during an interactive session on the Entrepreneurial Journey in the Circular Economy. The session was a profound experience that allowed participants to grasp the fundamentals of business development while uncovering pivotal strategies for nurturing a waste management enterprise. During the engaging discussion, we delved into the intricate workings of the waste industry, tackling real-time challenges head-on. The discourse wasn't merely theoretical; it unveiled the operational intricacies and practical hurdles that the waste sector faces every day. One of the highlights was gaining insights into navigating the legal landscape that encompasses the establishment of a waste management company. Our CEO's comprehensive breakdown of the legal processes was a masterclass in itself, providing a roadmap for aspiring entrepreneurs to navigate these complexities seamlessly. The heart of the lecture was in understanding the power of collaboration and stakeholder engagement. Our CEO elucidated strategies to harmonize efforts with governmental bodies, informal sectors, and, of course, our invaluable customers. It was a reminder that progress is a collective journey, and partnership is the cornerstone of sustainable growth. The horizon of opportunities in the waste management sector is expanding at an unprecedented rate. Our CEO's illuminating take on these emerging prospects left everyone brimming with excitement. Learning how to harness these opportunities was not only enlightening but also ignited a fresh wave of motivation. The Australian Financial Review Entrepreneur summit this week was awesome. I enjoyed the breadth of topics covered; but most of all, I really loved that the speakers on the day were not afraid to share honest perspectives – and to really have a view on things. Highlights on the day included for me: 🌠 The inspirational story of Kristy Chong OAM who built a business as a sole female founder, and sold it for $140m. 💡 The perspective that while Australia may not have as deep capital markets as the US, the “Goldilock effect” of having a smaller population, high GDP per capital, and an oligopolistic economy ripe for disruption makes it a prime place to start a tech business. 🌍 Brilliant Climate Tech Businesses shedding light on the reality of what it takes to build a successful climate tech business, how to raise capital to support the build of such businesses, and how to galvanize and support staff on such a bold mission. On a day where the Climate Tech Samsara Eco $100m capital raise has been announced, the future for our planet seems to look that much brighter.
