“At Prologis, we’re committed to sustainability, and to being a force of good in the communities we serve. This community solar project is an example of what can be achieved when [we] come together for a more sustainable future,” said Andrea Marín Monterrubio at a commercial rooftop #communitysolar site as part of the NAIOP I.CON East conference. At the event, dozens of the nation’s #commercialrealestate leaders saw first-hand the benefits that community solar projects on commercial rooftops create. Bringing Solar Savings to the South Bronx: A New Partnership for Low- and Moderate-Income Residents ✅ ⚡ We're excited to announce a groundbreaking partnership between Nuveen and Perch Energy that will allow thousands of New Yorkers, including residents of four Section 8 apartment buildings in the South Bronx, to save up to 20% on their electricity bills through community solar. This innovative program expands access to renewable energy, addressing the high energy burdens many Bronxites face. By connecting residents' existing ConEdison accounts to a nearby solar farm, they can enjoy the benefits of solar power without the need for rooftop installations. Over 5,000 households across the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, and Manhattan will now have the opportunity to join this community solar initiative. It's a game-changer for ensuring solar energy is "truly available to all," as Perch Energy's CEO Bruce Stewart puts it. This partnership represents a crucial step towards a more equitable and sustainable energy future for the South Bronx and beyond. Together, we're empowering low- and moderate-income families to take control of their energy costs and contribute to a cleaner environment. #SolarEnergy #CommunityImpact #SouthBronx #SustainableNYC

In a significant step towards its sustainability goals, California recently approved plans to add over 56GW of new solar, wind, and storage by 2035. This sweeping buildout aims to reduce electric sector emissions by nearly 60%. To reach the target, coordinated planning across agencies is essential, from resource procurement to transmission infrastructure. A key initiative we are excited about is the Community Solar program currently in legislation. Community solar has been proven across the country to make significant strides towards RPS goals. In anticipation of this emerging market, onCORE has been originating sites for clients’ to develop community solar projects. In 2023, onCORE Origination originated 54 new community solar projects in California alone for its clients through targeted outreach and strategic relationships. We remain bullish on the California market and will continue to originate projects in the state for years to come. *** How can your organization help transform California's clean energy targets into on-the-ground impact? “It means a lot when you acquire a project in your backyard that not only promotes community involvement, fostering a sense of unity, but also brings the benefits of solar power to a broader audience,” Michael Streams, Chief Development Officer for Standard Solar. Standard Solar has an exciting new acquisition to add to its 24-project portfolio in Maryland: the FCP’s Holly Spring Meadows apartment complex. Acquired from New Columbia Solar, the 800-kilowatt carport array and a 921-kW rooftop array project will generate a combined 2,120-megawatt hours of clean energy annually. This exciting new system is the first community solar carport in Maryland and will help push the state closer to its Renewable Portfolio Standard. Project partners, including community solar subscription provider Arcadia, held a ribbon-cutting event over the weekend to celebrate the project's completion. A renewable energy revolution is sweeping the nation through community solar. This model allows households to share the benefits of a larger solar installation, which expands clean energy access. Recent momentum has been immense: → Over 15 gigawatts of community solar installations are forecasted by 2028 as states continue passing enabling policies. → Major established markets like New Jersey, Maryland, and Minnesota are actively working to grow programs. →Federal initiatives will provide $7 billion in funding for low-income community solar expansion. → More than 10 additional states are pursuing community solar programs tailored to their local needs and resources. → California stands poised to finally open its market after long delays, with innovative policies to serve the grid and residents. Community solar empowers neighborhoods to take part in the renewable transition by giving inclusive solar access and local resiliency. This people-powered model represents a chance to spread solar equitably and efficiently in many states lagging in adoption. *** What markets are you most excited about? The Department of Energy challenged the community solar industry to achieve 20 GW of community solar by 2025, up from the current 7 GW. To support this goal, the DOE announced two initiatives: the Equitable Solar Communities of Practice program and the release of the LODGE model. The Equitable Solar Communities of Practice program will provide $75,000 to five organizations to identify resource gaps and support the development of best practices for equitable solar. The LODGE model aims to identify cost-effective ways to site community solar on the grid, minimizing interconnection costs and maximizing distributed resource deployment. We've considered all of these factors and a lot more. To elaborate, our suitability data has over 30 usable attributes - and that number is growing! Want some overarching statistics for an area you're working in? Let me know and I'll send some over. #SolarEnergy #RenewablePower #CleanTech #SolarPV #SustainableLiving
It is time for the second post in my series looking at the rooftop solar potential of England's Local Authority areas. Using Geospatial Insight - Sustainability's LOCATE Solar platform, I'll extract key stats for one area in each post. Today - as requested by Steve Wilcockson - we'll take a closer look at Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils - Mid Suffolk ranks 101st across English councils in terms of potential rooftop solar capacity, with 399MW - 399MW of rooftop solar across the District's 64,500 buildings would save over £67,000,000 on energy bills annually - Additionally, that solar would generate export revenue in the region of £8,500,000 a year - CO2 savings (based on removing fossil fuel generation from the grid) would total in excess of 90,000 tonnes a year - Over a 20yr lifetime, rooftop solar in Mid Suffolk would deliver a total financial benefit to the region of over £1.4billion! Please let me know if there is a specific area or region you'd like to see the stats for next time by dropping me a comment. If there's no preference, I'll pick somewhere at random for my next solar post. #solar #solarpower #solarpv #renewableenergy #sustainability
