Amazing Borealis Philanthropy REJ (Racial Equity Journalism) conference in Charlotte NC with my always impressive boss New York Amsterdam News Publisher Elinor Tatum who spoke on Revenue Sustainability. So moving to be in the company of Social Justice activists who use journalism to make our country a more just, equitable democracy. Our future is in good hands with electrifying visionary leaders like REJ Executive Director Alicia Bell who I am honored to call friend. And visionary funders like the MacArthur Foundation and Democracy Fund teams. In these challenging times - young vibrant leadership like these - give one confidence in the future.

Even against a backdrop of macro uncertainty and market volatility, shareholder activism broke records in 2023, fueled in particular by elevated activity in Europe and APAC. 180+ activists were responsible for campaigns in 2023, a remarkable 42% of which were first timer players, underscoring activism's ever-broadening reach. And in both the U.S. and Europe, pushes for company sales or break-ups gathered steam heading into year-end, a clear signal that activists are confident in a stronger 2024 outlook for M&A and financing markets.
