There's a quote from the movie Inside Out 2 that’s easy to miss if you're not paying close attention. And for those of you no longer obligated to go to animated movies, let me explain. It's the scene where Sadness timidly asks Joy if she can go with her to the Memory Pond. In response, Joy takes Sadness' hand in hers and tells her friend, 'Of course! Remember Sadness, wherever I go, you're coming too.' When I heard that, it reminded me of how some people fear being too happy because they know sadness can follow. That's not how life works, nor is it true. One doesn't follow the other because they always travel together, side by side, hand in hand. Joy and sadness are like train tracks. Even on the saddest days, if we look closely enough and allow ourselves to experience it, there's always some joy. Similarly, even on the happiest days, the birth of a child, a wedding, a graduation, a championship, or a promotion, when we remember someone or something missing, there's always a hint of sadness. That's why when we say we're grateful for life, we can't just be grateful for the joyful moments; we must be grateful even for the sad parts. Joy and sadness carry us (or we carry them) as we move from one stage of life to the next. Life is a gift-every part included. Its sadness that reminds us of some of the most special memories of life. And joy makes the journey all worth it. Grateful for it all. #extraordinarynotordinary

Thank you for sharing this Sharon. It can be quite the challenge believing that joy accompanies sadness, especially when you feel like your world is falling apart right before your very eyes. The only thing that never leaves you is hope. As long as you have hope to search for the joy in everything that surrounds you, you’ll be ok. 👌🏿 i truly am grateful for it all. 🙏🏼💙

I say that we have to be like a defensive driver and know that both sadness and happiness come and go. Just like weekends. We can't wait fir them to come but then when they do they go fast. 🤔

You are a beautiful soul, Sharon. Allow me to first state that... now. Wow, I'm so in awe that you caught this. The Reyes family geared up for seeing this 2nd installment by re-watching the 1st one and this message is a continuation of that 1st movie. Sadness is a part of Joy.. Joy is a part of Sadness. It's life. So live it... and don't be scared to live and don't be scared to die (joy and sadness). Have a blessed day!

Wow, such an enlightened perspective Sharon Hulce. Some of the most joy filled days of my life, sadness has found its way into the mix. Much as you describe, it often has to do with a missing loved one whose absence is felt. I have found it difficult to reconcile seemingly opposing feelings. Thanks for the lesson!

Sharon Hulce and Shelly (Owens) Stever- Couldn't agree more, very creative and poignant post, Sharon! Love how you called out how this movie touches on an important part of our humanness. We are complex beings with many emotions that can be experienced - sometimes all at the same time. Rather than shying away from them, we should lean in and be GRATEFUL for all the moments, each serves a purpose in our lives, even if it's getting us to the next spot of JOY! 🤣 😕 🙃 😀

Sharon, grateful today and every day for you and your posts. Keep doing God’s work! It matters!

What a beautifully insightful reflection on the intertwined nature of joy and sadness. Your comparison to train tracks is particularly poignant, capturing how these emotions coexist in our lives. Embracing both the highs and lows indeed enriches our experience and helps us appreciate the full spectrum of life. Thank you for sharing this thought-provoking perspective.

I just watched this movie with the grandkids, it was deep in so many ways. Also maybe a lump in my throat and possibly a tear....

I love this. I love what you said, Sharon Hulce "joy and sadness are like train tracks, if we look closely enough, and allow ourselves to experience it, there is always some joy." ❤️
