FEMA's Individual Assistance updates are a step in the right direction, but they're treating the symptoms, not the disease. We need a paradigm shift towards prevention, protection, and mitigation. Why? Because investing upfront saves lives, money, and heartache down the line. FEMA’s own data is clear: every dollar spent on mitigation saves six on response. That's not just a cost saving, it's a life-saving strategy. Imagine resilient communities, shielded by early warning systems, fortified buildings, and updated infrastructure. Imagine lives saved, anxieties quelled, and years of rebuilding avoided. This isn't just about immediate impact; it's about building a future where communities can weather any storm. Mitigation, Prevention, and protection strategies shorten recovery times, minimizes economic disruption, and fosters long-term resilience. It's about empowering communities, not just patching up the aftermath. So, let's ditch the reactive bandaids and embrace proactive solutions. Invest infrastructure, enhance community building codes, educate communities, and leverage technology. Let's make pre-disaster activity the cornerstone of our future, ensuring generations inherit a world where disasters are not nightmares, but manageable bumps in the road. #emergencymanagement #emergencypreparedness #commonsense

On May 2, severe storms hit the northeast Houston region, including northeast Harris County and Montgomery County. We are acutely aware of the significant challenges that individuals and families affected by this disaster are currently encountering. The Greater Houston Disaster Alliance (Disaster Alliance) is diligently working to provide information that will help those impacted. Given the localized impacts of this disaster, the most effective role of the Disaster Alliance at this time is to facilitate connections between those who can give and the nonprofit organizations that are providing direct assistance in affected communities. Visit the Active Disasters page on the Disaster Alliance website for more information on where to give and resources for those seeking assistance. https://lnkd.in/gXrWPZd7 #Disaster #Weather #Resources #HarrisCounty #MontgomeryCounty

Six disaster-trained volunteers from the American Red Cross of South Carolina are deploying to support disaster relief operations in Hawaii where dangerous wildfires are burning on the Big Island and Maui in Hawaii. The fires are being fueled by strong winds from Hurricane Dora, which is still hundreds of miles away. The American Red Cross is working around the clock to help those affected. Trained Red Cross disaster workers responded immediately, opening shelters to provide refuge from the fires. Working with officials and partners, our teams are providing evacuees with a safe place to stay, food to eat, and emotional support during this challenging time and preparing to expand relief efforts if needed. More help is on the way as disaster teams deploy from the other Hawaiian Islands and across the country. The Red Cross of South Carolina stands ready to deploy more Disaster-Trained workers as needed. More here: https://rdcrss.org/3OQXzj3

I never dreamed I could have an entire conversation about laundry – how people do their laundry, the order they drop products in the washing machine, the temperature of water (please wash in cold), the amount of scent, the brightness, and so much more! It’s fascinating how much people love to talk about laundry, and apparently, I do too! I also learned today is #NationalLaundryDay. Procter & Gamble's Tide brand does more than provide superior cleaning, the brand is also committed to helping individuals and communities who have been affected by natural disasters. Check out how P&G people come together with partners to help for this important cause. #PGinnovation #LoadsofHope
After a flood, hurricane or other natural disaster, basic resources, such as clean clothes, are a small but meaningful step toward recovery. This #NationalLaundryDay, we're spotlighting Tide Loads of Hope. This program provides free laundry services to communities affected by natural disasters — offering a sense of normalcy through the comfort of clean clothes. In partnership with Matthew 25: Ministries, an international humanitarian aid and disaster relief organization, Tide Loads of Hope has benefitted over 90,000 people across the U.S. and Canada. Learn more about the program and how we are leveraging our brands to improve the communities we interact with and serve: https://lnkd.in/gtizEJ5Y #LoadsofHope #CommunityImpact

The need for support is immense, and we call on governments, donors, and stakeholders to join us in our response and early action efforts. Together, we can help these communities recover and prepare for future challenges. https://lnkd.in/ebAb2Mnm
