At 73, Chandrakanth faced many naysayers when he transitioned to #agroforestry. The question of whether tree-based farming was worth the risk did not dissuade him. He candidly reflected, "When everything else fades, the trees will remain—they are nature's healers. I had no doubts about the trees, but natural farming coupled with water scarcity made the transition more challenging. The support from SayTrees through training and expert connections provided me with the right approach at the right time." To sustain his saplings, Chandrakanth relied on his horse to transport water. "I would fill canisters from nearby canals, and my horse and I would gallop to the land. It sounds cinematic, but we are living in times when lived stories inspire communities, not just audiences," he shares. Chandrakanth's courage just needed a support system. You can help more farmers like Chandrakanth as they farm in the most trying times of anthropological climate change. For thousands of years, indigenous and forest peoples have lived in harmony with nature, acting in reciprocity and partnership with the elements, the seasons, and the abundant gifts of the forest. 'Ayni' captures the esence of this interconnectedness and reciprocity, recognizing that individuals and communities are woven into a net of interdependence that entails mutual responsibility for the wellbeing of each other. This is the fifth year of our 'Ayni, Regenererative Food Forest in the Amazon' initiative. Working hand in hand with local and indigenous communities, we seek for recovering traditional Amazonian agroforestry practices to give diversity back to families' plots. Would you like to be part of this reciprocity initiative? More to come in the next few days! #permaculture #reciprocity #agroforestry #indigenousknowledge #amazon #peruvianamazon #amazonrainforest #nonprofit

Watch this program. Just one of the reasons why I've joined the blue economy.
Have you heard that in Alaska, the latest “gold rush” is kelp farming? 🌿 Although farming kelp on submerged ropes is new to the region, this blue food has long been a part of Indigenous diets. That’s where fisherman and Eyak tribal member Dune Lankard and his non-profit Native Conservancy come in. They’re leading the charge to make sure Indigenous people can use kelp farming to create economic opportunities and support the health of the ocean! This is especially needed in their home turf of Prince William Sound—a place once devastated by the Exxon Valdez oil spill. To hear more about how their kelp farms can be an antidote to years of extractive practices on the water, watch Episode 1 of 𝗛𝗢𝗣𝗘 𝗜𝗡 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗪𝗔𝗧𝗘𝗥. Mark your calendars for June 19th, when it airs on PBS. #SeaweedDay #HopeInTheWaterPBS

🌱 Exciting News! Embrace Sustainable Development with Agroforestry! 🌳 Did you know that Agroforestry is a powerful solution that can contribute to several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)? By combining agriculture and forestry, Agroforestry helps combat climate change, supports biodiversity, enhances food security, and empowers local communities. 🌍 Here's how Agroforestry contributes to SDGs: 1️⃣ SDG 13 - Climate Action: Trees absorb carbon dioxide and mitigate climate change, creating a more sustainable environment. 2️⃣ SDG 15 - Life on Land: Agroforestry promotes biodiversity by providing habitats for various species and conserving natural resources. 3️⃣ SDG 1 - No Poverty: Agroforestry generates income for farmers, lifting them out of poverty and improving livelihoods. 4️⃣ SDG 2 - Zero Hunger: With diverse crops and improved soil health, Agroforestry boosts food security and nutrition. 🌿 Let's take action together! Support Agroforestry initiatives by donating to our Forest Fundraiser. Your contribution will directly impact the success of this sustainable practice. Every donation counts! How do you make a country-wide difference? By helping Tiyeni go national! SAVE THE DATE for 18 to 25 April when we will once again be taking part in the Big Give’s Green Match Fund. The Big Give will DOUBLE your donations to Tiyeni so that you can help farmers DOUBLE their crop yields. This year, we’re taking our programme to the next level: we will be training Agriculture Officers across Malawi, who in turn can go out and train more farmers in our Deep Bed Farming techniques. These techniques are simple to learn and don’t require specialist tools. They will mean that land is better prepared for climate change, more crops are grown, and communities see better food security and health. #malawi #sustainableagriculture #smallholderfarmers #regenerativeagriculture

Lureko's 3-acre maize farm is thriving, thanks to *Regenerative Agriculture* technology. Despite a prolonged drought lasting two weeks right after planting, the crop's vigour is satisfactory, with over a 95% germination rate. This success can be attributed to *Minimum Tillage*, a key principle of Conservation Agriculture, which enabled the crop to withstand the extended dry period. Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) aims not only to *reduce production costs* but also to *boost farm productivity* and *enhance crop resilience* against the increasingly unpredictable weather patterns brought about by *Climate Change.* https://lnkd.in/eeVdd9-H #internationaldevelopment #kenya #charity #poverty #health #education #thenasiotrust #climatechange #sustainablefarming #agriculture

In #Zimbabwe, Episcopal Relief & Development partners with the Anglican Diocese of Matabeleland to address sustainable #agriculture projects in areas where cyclical #drought has reduced #foodproduction and caused people to leave their communities to find work. Our focus is on enhancing #climateresilience in #farming communities. Farmers receive training in #climate-smart agriculture techniques and support in seeds, land preparation and #water management through the diocese's program. This enables households to cultivate diverse #crops and ensures a year-round #foodsupply. Surplus produce is sold at local markets, generating #income for the community. A revolving assets fund and a pilot #watershed development program have also been established. https://lnkd.in/dwtPc8va
