Thirty years. 🎈 Crazy, right? Maybe it doesn’t seem that wild to you—plenty of brands have existed for more than a few decades—but to us, this is special. Not sure if you’ve noticed, but it’s not easy for a media company to hang around these days. So far, we’ve done it. And to be honest, we’re damn proud of it, so we’re going to celebrate TF out of it this year. That celebration kicks off with this issue. We devoted the majority of our new issue to recognizing a group of players who helped SLAM become what it is today. It’s technically not 30 individual players, but rather 30 entries, with a few entries including people who needed to be acknowledged together (Q-Rich and D-Miles; the Ball Brothers; you get it). And then we compiled 30 young players we think have a chance to be on the next version of this list, because we always look forward while we celebrate the past. Speaking of that celebration, we’ve got a lot more coming this year. We don’t want to spoil anything, but let’s just say it includes IRL events, sneaker collabs, apparel collabs, digital content, an amazing new print product and more. In other words: the celebration will hit every single thing we do. We’re putting our full energy behind this anniversary, because in our world, 30 years is no joke. This video appeared on my instagram feed last night and it really hit home. This is the reality of the world we live in: -100 billion new garments are produced annually around the world. - It takes around 2,700 litres of water to make one cotton shirt. - Buying a single white cotton shirt produces the same emissions as driving 35 miles in a car - Just 8% of old clothes are reused and only 10% are recycled across the globe But we can make changes! - Buy less and and choose higher-quality items that last longer instead of fast fashion pieces that wear out quickly. - Purchase clothes from thrift stores, consignment shops, or online marketplaces for second-hand goods (Vinted is an excellent app offering some great high end pieces) - Upcycle old clothing into new items (turning jeans into shorts or t-shirts into cleaning rags.) or even remodel old t shirts to be something new! - Organize clothing swaps with friends to refresh your wardrobe without buying new items. - Adopt a minimalist approach to your wardrobe, focusing on essential items that you truly love and wear often. #textilewaste #fastfashion #overcomsumption #secondhandshopping

So im a believer in a brand not being for everyone, but to do it right, it needs to speak to its base. With Autumn, it's a more mature, outdoor-inspired customer that leans into vintage. Corduroy is for a younger, core snow/skate market highlighting more featured artist stories, and now launching in October is $HEI$TY that is targeted to streetwear/sneaker accounts. 3 brands in the accessories space with all different paths and customers. i know this is crazy to some, but i think my skate roots tells me this is the right way. how many skateboard companies have multiple brands with different art to appeal to different customers? auto manufacturers? soft drink companies? long live rocco :)
