Have you ever wondered why outdoor community events matter? It's a question often posed by stakeholders or supervisors, and the answer varies based on our goals. For me, these events matter because they foster connections to experiences we can rely on. In an increasingly digital world, this connection is crucial, especially now. The pandemic hasn't just physically distanced us; it has also driven us into isolated online bubbles. We encounter fake news, propaganda, and divisive narratives daily, leading to fractured communities where individuals find solace in echo chambers and fringe beliefs. The remedy lies in bringing people together offline, in shared spaces and community events. These events can be intentionally crafted to bridge divides and nurture inclusivity, fostering a sense of belonging for everyone, irrespective of differences. Despite the challenges, I believe in the inherent goodness of people. It's just harder to see amidst the digital noise and echo chambers. By creating welcoming outdoor environments through community events, we can break down barriers and create opportunities for genuine connections and understanding. #communityevents #eventsmanagement #eventoperations #eventlogistics #eventstaffing

Fantastic news that our research on #Community #Events and their #recovery post-COVID 19 has been published in International Journal of Event and Festival Management. Collaboration between Glasgow Caledonian University and British University Vietnam. Big thanks to the collaborative efforts: Lindsay Robbins Daniel Baxter Dr Maren Viol Alannah Graham Aleksandra Halas Creative Commons AAM available here soon: https://lnkd.in/eYyyNbNK Four key themes emerged. 1) COVID-19 fractured stakeholder networks and impacted the ability of community events to operate. Practices adapted to incorporate virtual events. 2) Events were considered as important for place-building and wider collective community benefits. This was brought more into focus for practitioners as a result of the pandemic. 3) Local authorities were variable in the level and support they gave community events. 4) Some positive changes were enforced through COVID-19, such as collaboration between small event collectives which can build resilience for community events in the future. #events #Scotland EventScotland #Resilience #Communities #DigitalTransformation #Social #Sustainability

Stick to the ABCs of community building at your next event! A: Aim for Partnership - Get everyone involved from the start. Invite others to step up, initiate, share their talents and abilities. They are not "attendees" but rather your partners in the success of the event. B: Bolster Relationships - Create spaces that encourage new relationships and celebrate every voice. Work on deepening existing relationships and providing opportunities for new ones. Remember that we might come for the "what", but we stay for the "who"! C: Cultivate Identity and Continuity - Embed your unique organizational culture into the event, use the event as an opportunity to strengthen a sense of pride and set the stage for future gatherings. Let’s design events that make a difference! Join us and make every event a milestone. Photo Credit: Emily Ranquist #vardainstitute #communitybuilding

Not Just About Spectators, But Community Builders Events shouldn't be passive experiences where attendees simply observe; they should be opportunities to build vibrant communities and meaningful connections. 👉 Not just about audience members, but about active participants who contribute ideas, share insights, and engage with one another. 👉 Not just about one-off gatherings, but about cultivating relationships that extend beyond the event and foster a sense of belonging. 👉 Not just about transactions, but about fostering a sense of community where attendees feel valued, heard, and empowered. Let's shift our focus from the event itself to the community it fosters. Create inclusive, welcoming spaces where everyone feels like they belong. #TheEventPlannerExpo #EventPlanning #NewYorkEvents #ProfessionalEventsNYC #NYCEventPlanner #CorporateEventPlannerNY

Do events create community, or does community create events? 🤔 In my opinion, both can be true. Events are a powerful way to bring people together—-but ultimately, all of the interactions we engage in on a day-to-day basis play a part in creating a sense of community. Communities can be formed and uplifted by: ✅ The words we share in person or virtually ✅ The moments we share with people we interact with regularly ✅ Individuals coming together to create and build a large scale experience Just as connected individuals work to create a shared experience together, a shared experience can facilitate new connections and deepen existing ones. The relationship between community and events flows in both directions. ↔️ Part of what makes my work so rewarding is planning events that foster and promote a greater sense of community—whether between corporate teams, partners or individuals with shared interests. ✨ What does community mean to you? 🫂 #eventplanning #eventplanner #eventprofs #community
