They're building a factory in South Carolina that'll transform your discarded tees into comfy new threads - think 80,000 t-shirts every year, all from recycled goodness! This ain't your grandma's hand-me-downs either. Evrnu's tech turns old cotton into a fresh, high-quality fiber called NuCycle. Imagine a world where your comfy clothes become even cuddlier and kinder to the planet? The best part? They're already teaming up with fashion companies like Pangaia in the UK to craft denim jackets from recycled cotton. Why does this matter? Cotton farming is HUGE! Every year, people make over 25 MILLION tons of cotton. That's a lot of water - approx.. 10,000 liters for just ONE kilo! And it's not good for the Earth either. Cotton farming hurts the soil and makes more pollution and smoke. Leather Lasts - Repair, Reuse, Recycle Leather is a by-product of the meat industry.. If these hides were not made to leather, the environmental impact would be close to catastrophic. When all turn vegetarian and bovines are not anymore farmed or when steak and hamburger can be grown in labs and readily accessible to all, then maybe meat and the leather as a by product would not have any reason to exist. The real culprit is plastic masquerading as leather or natural like fabric. The carbon footprint of plastic products is truly huge and is very difficult to recycle, reuse and biodegrade. The fashion industry promotes the use of such items like nylon, rayon, polyesters and the like. These disposables make the earth a huge garbage dump. Efforts to create new materials from bamboo and abaca is laudable and should be helped by both manufacturers as well as consumers.

Empowering the Circular Economy Through Innovation in Recycling. Innovation as an input factor in any discussion could reasonably point in different directions. Innovation could be applied into the processes for the creation of a desired output which implies considerations like shorter processing times, more efficient resource utilisation and greater production efficiency. Innovation also moves in a different direction that may oversee the utilisation of existing processes in creating a new product or service. This idea is of particular interest as it holds the potential of introducing an entity to a new reality that could possibly mean new markets, new customers and an entirely different public profile. While process innovation remains critical, FREEE Recycle has taken a unique approach, applying the principle of innovation in its product development journey. FREEE began with construction solutions like flooring but has diversified its product line with innovative uses for recycled rubber. This includes marine fenders for dockyards and expansion joints for bridges. Most recently, FREEE Recycle ventured into the sustainable fashion space by producing flip-flops, demonstrating the versatility of recycled materials. This commitment to product innovation exemplifies FREEE Recycle's dedication to a circular economy. By transforming discarded tires into high-quality flip-flops, they're closing the loop on waste and creating valuable new products. Weaving Mats With Recycled Fabric. One thing I always do before throwing anything away, is to ask myself: “Is this truly useless, or is there something else it can be used for?”. This is the principle of reduce, reuse and recycle.When I taught myself to weave, I immediately realized that yarn is expensive. Plus, I love to experiment, and so I decided to find out if T-shirt strips could be used to weave. This particular mat in the photo below 👇 is made from old curtains, half of a bedsheet, grass and banana fiber 💚. Clean fibers are essential for creating high-quality recycled products. 🚿✨ Spinning and Weaving: The clean fibers are spun into yarn and then woven or knitted into new fabrics. I'm always being asked about Renewcell. As I've made clear many times, it's not my preferred solution. Back in November 2022, I told the The New York Times what I really thought. My mind hasn't changed one bit. But more importantly new technology needs to be "close-ish" to parity pricing to compete commercially, otherwise it's just another greenwash capsule collection. “Recycling stuff is energy-intensive,” Mr. Foulkes-Arellano said. “If we were sensible, we would just cut all the denim up, all the T-shirts up, and just upcycle them into new garments. I mean, there’s a lot of really good upcycled denim companies out there. But big business wants new fabric.” I have a t-shirt with Circulose™ content, but I don't love it. I LOVE all my upcycled stuff (well, the dozen garments I have), I would never give that up to recycling. On my next business card it will say: Recycling is the enemy of circularity. If we can't think beyond recycling we are doomed.
