Great opportunities

The reality is: Some of us have kids and the holidays are approaching and bills need to be paid! Guess who is hiring in the meantime: 1. Seasonal retail roles 2. Gyms 3. Hotel Bartending roles 4. Virtual Assistant roles 5. Call center jobs 6. Starbucks 7. Target 8. Overnight stocking positions I know it’s not an attractive job and isn’t a “FAANG” company but some of us have to do what we can while we wait, network and apply to jobs in our field that we deserve and have worked hard for and finally get that one “YES” after an interview. I have a few interviews coming up for seasonal and temporary roles for the holidays until I hear back from recruiters, job applications and countless LinkedIn InMail messages that share my interests and qualifications for the role I’ve applied to. To whomever is reading this and in my position, I pray you find something temporary and seasonal to help you and your family out until your big break comes! Happy Thanksgiving!!

Can honestly say this is the longest period of time I have gone without having a AP / LP position. I'm told my resume is impressive along with my results with previous companies. With that said I keep losing positions to other candidates that don't have the proven record that I have. I can only assume why but this isn't the place to list those rants. So here is a question. What other positions have any of you transitioned into outside of AP / LP? So far I have applied to store manager, OPs manager, inventory control and assistant manager positions without an interview. Has retail changed that much or are they moving on from the old dogs for new tricks. I just realized that October is #NationalCookieMonth! Time to strategize how to enjoy all those scrumptious cookies not only in October but the rest of the holidays without completely derailing my healthy eating plan. 😂 What is your favorite kind of cookie? Chocolate Chip is a favorite staple BUT I love a good Oatmeal Raisin and anything w/a jam in it like those thumbprint cookies. Do you have a well-loved recipe to share? I'm a sad baker better meal maker. 🍪 are my ultimate weakness! The fact that there are so many different types and flavors makes them even more exciting. Baking cookies always brings to mind the pursuit of the perfect job. It's like the process of making the perfect batch of cookies - you have to think about variety, ingredients, preparations, presentation, personalization, and timing! ❌ I could delete it from my resume ❌ ✂ I could cut it from my LinkedIn Profile ✂ But I don't want to. ... ☕ I was a shift supervisor at a downtown Starbucks on the morning shift.☕ It's not directly related to my "big-C" Career. It's not explicitly white collar, or corporate, or prestigious. But it matters. It's part of my story. It was the MORNING SHIFT. At a DOWNTOWN store. I called the line, I assigned and rotated staff, did inventory and smiled and coached and wiped counters and cleaned bathrooms. I made outrageously complicated drinks and brewed carafes upon carafes of coffee. Put simply - I learned about prioritization, delegation, teamwork, marketing, conflict management, customer service and goal setting. A lot of workers out there are struggling to find work. Those of us trying the retail route to make ends meet are getting nowhere if we have any corporate experience. So here's a tip that at least got me an increase in interviews. I'm not saying it's perfect or will work for everyone but here it goes. I started the old/dead practice of pounding the pavement. But with a twist... I went to the career pages of places I wanted to work (Petco, Guitar Center, Bevmo, etc.) did a search of open positions but the key was...only looking at locations that had more than "associate" or "cashier". If they had other positions, that's where I went. Why? A little birdie told me that often (not always) those associate, crew, cashier positions are left up year-round IN CASE the store needs more staff. Starbucks, for example, clears its pending applications every 90 days, then reposts the same jobs. Obviously, this is not always the case, but it does happen a lot. Then when I went into those businesses after doing my research, I asked for the manager and mentioned the specific position I saw online. If I went in asking if they were hiring I would get told "Check and apply online", but if I went in with a target position and asked about it...usually I could at least talk to someone in management. And the managers get it, things are tough, they're humans too. And if you have skills they need, it might work in your favor.

Hiring? Is the process similar to going to the grocery store to buy all the ingredients to make a cake? Is it buying a cake already made? Or is it more like looking at an artist’s rendering of a cake - you don’t know why but you like it?
