Take advantage of your moment.
Before walking across the stage I thought about what I would do in the moment that they called my name at my law school graduation ceremony in May 2022.
Since my high school graduation, I have always struck a pose either before or after I received my diploma, and my law school graduation was not going to be any different.
Despite being hospitalized in of a blood transfusion and undergoing subsequent colonoscopy and endoscopy while in law school, I still graduated with my class. Despite all of that also happening during a global pandemic, I still graduated. So when the time came for me to walk across that stage, I knew what I was going to do.
After my name was announced and I was still on stage, I blew a kiss to the crowd and took a bow. That’s what you see in this picture here. Me taking advantage of my moment as it was captured on camera. In that moment, all of the attention was on me. All of the recognition I deserved was being given to me. And I took advantage of it. However, in that moment, I had no idea that this moment would live on.
Since then, this very picture has been used in Seattle University School of Law’s graduation brochure for several or more graduation ceremonies. Future graduates that may have never heard of me, saw me in their graduation brochures. All because I took advantage of my moment.
I encourage you all to take advantage of your moment. Do not sell yourself short of something you have earned and the opportunity to share it. Be brave and most important be bold.
Take advantage of your moment.
