So, picture this: I was looking for a tech whiz to join one of the teams in my company. After several interviews, I stumbled upon a candidate who seemed like the perfect fit. Excited, I roped in the hiring manager for a second interview, and things looked promising. The candidate's soft and hard skills dazzled us both. So, we decided to take it up a notch and introduced the candidate to the team's senior managers. During this interview, everything was going smoothly until they popped the classic question: "How do you prefer to work? Solo or as part of a team?" Innocent enough, right? Well, not quite. The candidate passionately declared their love for teamwork and the joy of office banter. The twist? The role we offered was predominantly remote, like 90% of the time remote. Cue the collective eyebrow raise from the senior managers. They started feeling uneasy, wondering if this candidate might feel stifled in a remote setup. And there it was, the decision not to proceed with the candidate. Why? Because, in their minds, this preference for in-person collaboration might lead to frustration down the road. I'd like you to fast forward to a chat with the hiring manager, and I asked if he was on board with this decision. His response hit me right in the feels. He spilt the beans about a team pact – an unspoken agreement that they'd hit the brakes if anyone had even the tiniest concern about a candidate. Unity in feelings about potential team members was their secret sauce, not a formal recruitment rule. Here's the heartstring-tugging lesson from this tale: Sometimes, a little flexibility in answering a question can make all the difference. It could've been a game-changer if our candidate had just hinted at being adaptable to different work styles,. It wasn't about being dishonest; it was about showcasing that beautiful adaptability we all value. 😒It's a Monday! And it's a good time to throw out there that starting new hires on Monday usually isn't the best idea. Does research show new hires can't focus on a Monday? Nope. Actually, it has very less to do with them and everything to do with your existing team. It might seem super productive to get a new hire onboarded ASAP, to get a full week of work coming in hot! But their first-day energy is running counter to your existing team's Monday morning stress. ❌ If a new hire walks in hopeful and energetic to please but their onboarding person is rushed, over-promised, inundated by a weekend full of emails, that new hire is getting the opposite of a welcome. They see chaos, lack of care and concern, and bad management. "I just got invited to a meeting. Just read the handbook and I'll be back in an hour for you." "I don't know where Tim is but he's supposed to talk to you." "No one warned IT so your laptop isn't set up yet. But we bought you lunch!" They're basically getting hazed. Both new and existing employees. Proper onboarding design includes the experiences and abilities of your current team. Planning allows recruiters to prioritise tasks based on urgency and importance, ensuring that critical tasks aren't left to the last minute. My personal advice is: - Prioritise! - Block out time for E V E R Y T H I N G! (I literally block out time in my diary to do these LinkedIn posts, and to make a weekly plan for LinkedIn posts) - Communicate clearly! I read an article this morning entitled Bare minimum Mondays could derail your career https://lnkd.in/gwqJ8kNg. It was the first time I had heard the expression, so I was curious. This article was an emotional roller coaster for me. As someone who started my career in the Silicon Valley in the 80’s, my gut reaction was disappointment in the next generation. My inner curmudgeon shouted “America is going to hell!” As I read the related articles and watched some of the videos, I started to feel some empathy, but then I had a sudden moment of thankfulness. Thankful that I am in a position to be passionate about the work I do every day. Sunday was my fifth anniversary at Copado and I am still excited and challenged by our mission to make release days obsolete. I was the first Copado employee hired in the US, but within a few months, Ted Elliott joined as our CEO and I was surrounded by a team of people I knew from both Salesforce and Jobscience. It felt like a family. Still does. Ted and team grew the company 25X in revenue over 5 years. If you have ever been in a successful startup, you know how chaotic that can be. Is it stressful? You bet. It is also extremely rewarding. By the time I finished reading the article, I felt sad for those people who feel stressed about showing up for work on Monday. If you love what you do and you are working with people you trust and care about, then Monday is simply your first opportunity to impact the lives of your customers in a positive way. As I learned working for Marc Bennioff, if you focus on making the customer successful and earning their trust, your own success will follow. So don’t stress out over showing up on Monday. Focus on making your customer successful. If you can’t get excited about that, then spend some time finding a position where you can. Welcome to Monday! Let’s get back to work.

What me and the team do to stay productive throughout the day: 🔄 Morning Meetings: Every day, we start with a morning meeting to reflect on the previous day, discuss any issues, stay updated on changes, and set our focus for the day. 🎉 Turn Up Tuesday: Every Tuesday, we have our "Turn Up Tuesday '' meeting. Each week, we have different discussions with various teams: Marketing: To discuss what the recruitment team sees for the marketing side. Our MD: To share our ideas and get feedback. Our CEO: To understand his vision for the recruitment team and the company. HR: Next week, we'll be discussing any upcoming changes with our HR team. 🕹️ Gear 5 Mode: We block out our diaries for any “gear 5 modes” - fully locked in, focused, and no distractions. 📊 Clear Statistics on the Board: Live updates of how many offers each recruiter has and how many 1st and 2nd Interviews for the day - to hold us accountable for our productivity! 📋 To-Do Lists: I plan my day with to-do lists and tick off tasks as I go. It’s the little wins that motivate you to work hard. 💆🏽♀️Breaks: We give ourselves little breaks throughout the day to avoid overworking and burnout. 🤝🏼Team Bonding: Spending time with the team for lunch or a even walk.
