Is National Links Trust showing a repeatable path to coordinated public/private investment in American municipal golf courses? I hope so. Neglected muni's hurt the game; this country is littered with courses less than 6,000 yards--many architectural gems laying waste--that remind golfers everyday that courses used to be designed and built for stimulating decision- and shot-making, not brute strength and grueling endurance. Re-discovering American muni's can help grow the game of golf; and also change the paradigm that city golf drains cities' budgets. Municipal golf courses are generally shorter, more playable, and more welcoming to beginners than other courses. Less time, less difficult, and hold the dress code are the same characteristics cited to explain golf entertainment's explosion. Whereas golf entertainment facilities sit off highways miles out of town, muni's sit in city centers I posit that city-owned dirt already dedicated to golf is better suited to growing the gamification of golf than farmland in suburban America. Muni's have a market advantage over TopGolf, DriveShack, and other private golf entertainment companies: cities and counties across America already own--and dedicate to golf--premium dirt (real property, you know, land). To be clear, I am not suggesting we plow over municipal golf courses to build a three-tier driving range. I am suggesting that the next time your city or county publishes a request for proposal regarding your local golf course, be open to the idea that the highest and best use--in service of its residents and their engagement with golf--may include aspects of golf entertainment. Perhaps even some that no one has come up with yet. #nationalinkstrust #bobbyjoneslinks #usga #munigolf #growthegame #grateful4golf
Today is the third annual Langston’s Axe - our celebration of the historic Langston Golf Course and its community. This event wouldn’t be possible without our event sponsors - Events DC, National Capital Bank, Washington Commanders, Palm Facility Services, Troon, Ourisman Automotive Group, and JBG SMITH. We are incredibly appreciative to have the support of these organizations who share in our commitment to positively impacting local communities through accessible, affordable, and engaging municipal golf. And also a sincere thank you to our players and partners - including the Wake Robin Golf Club, Royal Golf Club, and the USGA Museum & Library - for making the event such a highlight of our year. Thank you!

Focusing on UK and international private wealth and tax law, I am a Legal Director - Professional Support Lawyer at Howard Kennedy LLP.
For anyone working in, or just interested in, Art Law, I would agree with Alex Watt about the value of joining the Art Lawyers Association. As a new member, I spent a fascinating day at the ALA's inaugural conference yesterday, hearing from experts in the field, including Alex and Jon Sharples, discussing topics ranging from protecting the intellectual property of artists, through the intricacies of ensuring the authenticity and provenance of art works, and the likely impact of AI and other digital developments on these issues and on the art world more generally. The increasing impact of regulation on the art market was discussed, and with Mark Stephens CBE and Alex Herman (author of "The Parthenon Marbles Dispute: Heritage, Law, Politics"), among others, in attendance, the issues of cultural heritage and restitution, and the hot topic of the Parthenon Marbles specifically, were never far from the centre of debate. These were only a few of the topics considered during a far-reaching and fascinating conference - thank you to all the panellists and moderators. I look forward to the ALA's next event! #art #artlaw #conference2023 #artists #intellectualproperty #provenance #restitution #AI #digitalart #streetart

Developing modern, vibrant, flexible Rotary to be part of our communities in the 21st Century
Starting a Rotary Satellite Club offers the additional benefits of expanding project possibilities, visibility, and the impact of Rotary in your community. As an example of how this model of Rotary club can work, Robert Lovick recently took a look at the Great Yarmouth Haven Rotary Club, a club that has maintained a presence in the local community through two satellite groups, for the latest edition of Rotary Digital.
