Update and tentative advice: 300 sign-ups and a 2000 wishlist bump over two days for simply uh...*checks notes* hosting a friends and family pre-alpha playtest!? I kid, but if I can give any advice, it may be that while there are negatives and positives to sharing early game footage/playable demos, it looks like a lot of players nowadays are interested in taking part in the development process of indie games. I would say, it's especially important if it's your studio's first game. Honesty and as much transparency as possible may be the approach most rewarded. However, who's to say if this will kick out butts in the future? We'll have to see! More community/marketing thoughts to come.
A happy surprise when you decide to host a pre-alpha playtest, hoping at minimum you get 15-20 sign-ups and instead get 100+, a lovely article, and a super chatty discord full of strangers. Congrats Goose Byte. p.s: it's not too late to join our Survivalcrafting pre-alpha playtest!!!! https://lnkd.in/eCb2X_5D Edit: 250+ sign-ups 👀 Edit 2: 450+ sign ups 🫠 edit 3: it's the first day and we had just under 800.

Loekalizing your games from and to Dutch, Japanese, Chinese, Korean and English. Portfolio: Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew, F1® 2023/2024, Syberia: The World Before, Arma 3, Arma Reforger, DayZ.
A few years back, we had the unique opportunity to collaborate with Kimmo, an indie game developer whose dedication and passion shine through his work on Barbearian (https://lnkd.in/etZfu6S). This collaboration wasn't just another project for us; it was a chance to underscore our commitment to indie developers—the real fighters in the trenches of game development. Kimmo’s journey, marked by a decade of solo development, is a vivid narrative of what it means to be an indie dev. It’s about the grit and perseverance required to bring a vision to life, often without the resources and safety nets available to larger studios. His story, especially our role in localizing Barbearian for Japanese and Chinese markets, emphasizes that our services extend far beyond the AAA studios nested in their high-rise glass offices. Our work with Kimmo was a testament to the importance of accessibility and cultural resonance in gaming, proving that great stories and engaging gameplay know no borders. Localization for indie games like Barbearian is more than just translating words; it’s about conveying the heart and soul of the game to a global audience, ensuring every player’s experience is as immersive and authentic as intended. Kimmo’s dedication to his craft, against the backdrop of an industry often dominated by major players, highlights the significant role indie developers play in enriching the gaming landscape with fresh, innovative ideas. It was an honor to support Kimmo, a true soldier in the game development trenches, fighting to bring his unique vision to players around the world. We’re here not only for the “suit guys” but for creators like Kimmo, who remind us of the vibrant diversity and creativity in the gaming world. Our collaboration with him reinforces our belief in supporting the underdog, the indie developer working tirelessly in their attic, dreaming big and daring to make those dreams a reality. It’s these stories that inspire us to do what we do, providing the bridge that connects indie games with a global audience, one localization at a time.
I wrote a little story about how it's been being an independent game developer on my own for the last 10 years. https://lnkd.in/d5pFAnq5

Goose Byte is building something special. Involving your core audience and getting direct feedback during development is critical. It allows you to build excitement, get invaluable insights, and create a game that truly resonates with players. The community pre-alpha playtest: ✔ Lets gamers go hands-on early and share their experience ✔ Builds a passionate community invested in the game's success ✔ Allows devs to iterate and polish based on player feedback ✔ Generates buzz and hype organically from players themselves Games live or die by their community - so why not co-create the experience WITH that community? We’re stoked to see how The Signal shapes up with this level of direct player input.
Update on our Steam page for THE SIGNAL -- our pre-Alpha open playtest is closing soon so it's your last chance to check out this build and share feedback that might help shape the game!
