In my current read, Continuous Discovery Habits by Teresa Torres, she talked about Confirmation Bias, one of the major obstacles in decision-making. Encountering this concept has reinforced the importance of cultivating an essential skill: being ready to let go of what you know when superior evidence arises. As product managers, it's crucial to avoid the trap of devising potential solutions and then seeking evidence to support them at all costs. Instead, we should approach validation with open-mindedness, being prepared to abandon our preconceived notions when the data indicates a different direction. "INSPIRED" by Marty Cagan I read this book a while ago, and I finally want to share my impressions and key thoughts with you. This book turned out to be a real treasure trove of knowledge and gave me a new perspective on #team and #product processes. In this post, I want to talk about the differences between teams, what I look for, and what I try to implement in my daily work. What distinguishes a bad team from a good one? 1. Good teams get their inspiration and product ideas from their vision and objectives, from observing customers’ struggles, from analyzing the data customers generate from using their product, and from constantly seeking to apply new technology to solve real problems. Bad teams gather requirements from sales and customers. 2. Good teams understand who each of their key stakeholders are, they understand the constraints that these stakeholders operate in, and they are committed to inventing solutions that work not just for users and customers, but also work within the constraints of the business. Bad teams gather requirements from stakeholders. 3. Good teams love to have brainstorming discussions with smart thought leaders from across the company. Bad teams get offended when someone outside their team dares to suggest they do something. 4. Good teams instrument their work so they can immediately understand how their product is being used and make adjustments based on the data. Bad teams consider analytics and reporting a nice to have. I think that in my next post, I will focus on forming a product vision from this same book, as the author describes some very interesting techniques and approaches. 👉 Share your opinion in the comments or message me directly. It’s been four years in the making and 12 months of focused hard work. I am proud to share that my book is now available on Amazon! 🎉🍾🥳 I wanted to write a book to: 1. Stop leaders saying everything is a priority!  2. Make executing product strategy effective and create high growth! 3. Create more customer value and reduce waste across product development. The journey to completing this book has been incredible! Four years ago, I shared ideas at a Mind the Product conference to capture feedback- the audience told me to go write the book! (If you were there - thank you). Writing with coauthor Andrea Saez, we tested ideas with blog posts and then captured learnings from a white paper. I worked with Frog Capital to inject some methods into their scale-up toolkit and helped some of their portfolios successfully implement the techniques. Then, armed with many learnings, Andrea and I iterated on the manuscript. All the ideas and concepts in the book have been used by companies we know. "You Have Opinions, Not Facts There’s some bad news you should know up front. Generally, less than 50% of ideas you’ll execute—even awesome ideas—improve the metrics they’re supposed to improve. Amazon tests all its new ideas and has data to back up this 50% figure. Yammer follows a similar practice and has seen similar numbers. As a product manager, you want to find ways to spend your time on features that matter. This starts with accepting that your ideas start off as opinions and not facts. It’s sometimes very hard for product managers to grasp that their opinions are not necessarily truth. We like being right, and we’re taught in school that it’s bad to be wrong. The real world—and building products—isn’t like that. It’s OK to be wrong, but we want to figure out if we’re wrong as soon as possible and course-correct before we put lots of resources into our incorrect opinions. If you’re wrong but insist you’re right, the product will fail. But if you’re wrong, realize it quickly, and adjust accordingly, you’re much more likely to succeed."
