Did you know? 1 in 7 state primary schools in the UK don't have a library, rising to 1 in 4 in disadvantaged communities. This means that 750,000 children are missing out on the many benefits of reading – from better results at school to improved wellbeing. Low literacy stifles children's potential and hampers economic growth, especially impacting those in disadvantaged communities. That's why we've joined forces with more than 100 other UK businesses to address falling literacy levels and improve the life chances of young people by signing the National Literacy Trust's vision for Literacy Business Pledge 2024, with support from KPMG. Over the next year, we will work with our schools to to empower more children and young people with the vital literacy skills they need to succeed. Find out more: https://lnkd.in/eVzHPvUD

Today as we take time to honor the children who never came home, the survivors, their families, and the communities, please go one step further and take the time to educate those within your circles of influence. Also take action - if you buy orange, patronize an indigenous business, if you can, give to an indigenous cause supporting this day, and finally, please participate in activities or events taking place. #orangeshirtday #everychildmatters #September30 #reconciliation #truth #Nationaldayfortruthandreconciliation #reconciliaction
September 30th, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, also known as Orange Shirt Day, this day and color commemorates the trauma and resilience of Indigenous children who were forced to attend residential and day schools. Today we honor those children and survivors, as well as their families and communities. We encourage everyone to take time to listen and learn about the generational effects of residential schools to ensure this never happens again. Please be advised that First Peoples Economic Growth Fund will not be open on Monday, October 2, 2023, in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. #orangeshirtday #everychildmatters #nationaldayfortruthandreconcilation #September30 #NDTR

First published in 2021, this episode was produced to share the findings of the United Nation's Children's fund on learning during the pandemic. Following this survey UNICEF then released https://lnkd.in/ePHhQRdv "Two Years After, Saving a Generation" . A compelling report "the first evidence-based assessment of this educational catastrophe in Latin America and the Caribbean." The report provides clear calls to action that remain relevant at the close of the 2023 school year. https://lnkd.in/eAR6qz4J

Distrust is expensive. Not only are federal level debates emotionally taxing, consider all the gridlock that results when we don't trust each other. In a landmark study by the Pew Center titled "Trust and Distrust in America" (2019), they reveal how far American's have come down the hole of distrust. Regardless of who you are, we simply don't trust most elected officials to solve some of our biggest problems, even when we can agree that they need to be solved. But there is an overlooked narrative to all this doom and gloom. It is remarkable how durable trust in state and local governments has been over this same period of time! This could be due to many factors, but one possibility is government problem-solving at the state and local levels just feels more proximate, more accessible, more accountable, and more practical than any federal level effort. https://lnkd.in/gBq88ACB
Federal government consistently viewed less favorably than state and local govt.
