Spring Series Info for Week 1: RACE ROUTE: https://buff.ly/3uZFl7U SCHEDULE: 5:45 sign-in 6:30 Race start 7:20 anticipated finish. Post-race beers around the fire pit. 8:15 get going to let the Leas have their place back MUST HAVES: To race tonight, you must: Have a front light Have a rear light Ride with a cell phone ROAD IS OPEN TO TRAFFIC - We will have a volunteer at the Road entrance off Sy's Trail. Be aware that the road is open to traffic, and if the volunteer whistles for you to stop, you must stop. If you ignore him, you will not get a place (or a beer!). RACE DURATION—Because this is such an early-season race, we have been asked about shortening the time from 45 minutes + 1 lap to 35 minutes + 1 lap. If you all agree to that change, I am okay with it. We will decide pre-race. PARKING: Bobby says the upper portion of his yard is ok to park on. Use 228 Five Points Road, Merztown, PA as the GPS. Look for the “RACE PARKING” signs. BYOW—Bring your own food and race hydration. There will be beers for the post-race. Bobby and Shelby have asked that we make our way home no later than 8:15 p.m. WHATS NEXT: Week 2 https://buff.ly/3wHzZP4 Next week, we're on the other side of the road. The blue line is ridden out to the red loops. You will race on the red loops until you hear the 1-to-go bell, at which point you will return on the blue line. We may add one lap of the Prologue to this, but that is TBD.

The fall months mean more races are starting to appear on the calendar, whether it’s a target marathon, HS cross country season or the local 5k. In addition to serving as the reward for all your preparation, racing also allows you to test yourself and your limits. After a race, you should always reflect and frame the outcome with a few important questions: - what did I do well in my race? - what did my race reveal about where I need more focus? - how will this race help me improve for the next race/goal on my schedule? It’s always helpful to have the positives outweigh the negatives, so enjoy the challenge of racing and allow each experience to serve as motivation!

Revving up for the start of race season like never before! Every year I pour my heart and soul into racing hare scrambles in the Florida Trail Riders (FTR) series. The thrill is back! A Hare Scramble is a type of off-road motorcycle race that takes place on a natural terrain course. It involves riders navigating through rough and challenging trails, often in wooded or hilly areas. The race is known for its diverse terrain, including dirt trails, rocky paths, and sometimes even creek crossings, which test the riders' skills and endurance. Riders compete to complete a certain number of laps around the course within a specified time frame. These events are known for their exciting and demanding nature. Riders need a combination of speed, endurance, and technical skill to excel in hare scrambles. Do a Spartan race in 2024! You probably know that I do Spartan obstacle course races. Recently, Spartan contacted me to ask me to help reach people who have never done a race to encourage them to challenge themselves in 2024 by committing to doing one of their events. I know I am biased, but a Spartan race isn't just a race; it's an experience that pushes your limits, builds resilience, and leaves you with a sense of accomplishment like few other things do! Spartan is big on not waiting until January 1st; so many people have a new year’s resolution but then don’t follow through. Instead, they are offering “first-timers” who have never done an event to do one for free in 2024.  Here are the steps: * Go to https://lnkd.in/gK33dn3h to choose a race (it has to be in the US). * Save the date and commit to the challenge. * Send me a message and let me know what email address I can share with Spartan, and they will contact you to provide you with a free race code that you can use when you register. The Racing Snails and the Pit Stop Dilemma Ever watch a snail race? Sounds silly, right? But there's wisdom in those slow, slimy steps. Imagine two snails: Sam and Sally. Sam was all about speed. He’d often peek over, comparing his pace with Sally. But Sally? She was in her own world. Focused on the journey, admiring the dewy grass. The race took hours. Sam, stressed from comparing, had to take frequent breaks. Sally, just being Sally, enjoyed every moment. Guess who reached the finish line first? This is "The Snail's Pace Principle." If you're feeling drained from constantly comparing: Focus on your own lane. Sam wasted energy on what Sally was doing. Sally moved at her own pace and won. Seek joy in your journey. Every step you take is unique. Celebrate it. Turn off the noise. Social media, the Joneses next door. Does their journey truly matter in yours? Ask yourself, "What’s my end goal?" Is it the race, or the experience of the journey? The story of Sam and Sally isn’t just about speed. It’s a lesson in enjoying our own unique paths without the weight of comparison.

I wonder how much different our lives would be if we constantly had blinders on? You know, like a race horse. Just running our own race, oblivious to anyone around us. No fear of judgement. No fear of failure. No fear of ridicule. No fear of guilt. No fear of doing to much. No fear of going all in. No fear of running off course. We would probably accomplish more OR accomplish things that are TRULY important to US. We let others rent mind space for no reason. We let what others might think paralyze us into doing nothing. Run your race. Run it how you see fit. Run fast. Run slow. Blinders on.

Breaking and training should prioritize the careful desensitization to racing environments. Exposing young racehorses to the sights, sounds, and sensations they will encounter on the track helps them adapt and remain calm under the pressure of race day.
