Global Recycling Day is today, and it’s our chance to really do something cool for our planet. Trust me, every little bit of recycling we do add up to a massive win for Mother Earth. 🌍♻️ Let me break it down for you with a bit of what I’ve learned - and, okay, a bit of humor because recycling lists don’t have to be boring! So, here’s the scoop on what you can toss into that recycle bin: - Paper (Yep, even your old homework!) - Cardboard (All those online shopping boxes? Recycle 'em!) - Glass bottles (After your fancy dinner party, perhaps?) - Aluminum cans (Soda, beer, you name it!) - Plastic bottles (Just make sure they’re empty, okay?) Now, onto the no-go zone. Here's what you definitely shouldn’t recycle: - Styrofoam (I know, it’s a bummer.) - Plastic bags (Just reuse them or get yourself a stylish tote!) - Batteries (These guys need special treatment.) - Light bulbs (Also not in the bin, please.) - Food waste (Compost if you can, it’s awesome for your garden!) How do you address plastic pollution in something as vast as the ocean? Tetra Tech plays a central role in the global fight to reduce the estimated 11 million metric tons of plastic that flow into the ocean each year. Since 2019 we have served as the implementing partner for Clean Cities, Blue Ocean (CCBO), USAID’s global flagship program to address ocean plastic pollution under the Save our Seas Initiative. Yet another global corporation walking back on its promise to limit its environmental impact. The problem with these voluntary "pledges" is they're so easy to make because ultimately you have no obligation to actually follow through on them! When Unilever origianally made these pledges they got to bask in all the positive PR that came with it, but now just get to quietly walk them back hopefully without too many people noticing. This guardian article hints at something I think we've known all along, big corporations are either unable or unwilling to make the changes needed to curb environmental catastrophe when it will hurt their profitibility. The problem is that because companies like Unilever are so big and have such a huge impact on the environment, our fate is largely in their hands. If they dont curb their impact it negates all the efforts we as individuals make. Saving the planet will never be profitable so it shouldnt be left to companies whose first priority is financial gains!

Are you Fairtrade International & The Fairtrade Foundation going to rise the cacao / cocoa minimum price to a sustainable one? One that does reflect the real situation of cacao farmers now? If not tell us why not? Especially now that the international cacao price is so much higher? Or are you going to keep it low and play again to the hands of multinationals like Nestlé, Mars and so many more, like in past, to get more on licence fees? There is no excuse to not level up the minimum price NOW and have something that safeguard the livelihoods of cacao producers for the future when this high prices fall. Nothing below US$6500 / MT would be a real reflection of their reality and would not be a a tool to lift farmers from poverty. Your actual minimum price is a laughing stock and a tragedy at the same time! After 30 years of the mark poverty still prevails between the farmers and shareholders, CEO's of multinationals have gone richer by exploiting the low prices. Why have you bee so slow or against recognising that there flaws to be corrected to take a real stand for a fair trading field for the farmers and communities? Why in this celebration of 30 years have you not a proper self reflection and listen to honest critics that want the best for farmers and that have seen what doesn't work. Why has not been any announcement of a real transformation of the way your work so it can be a real game changer for the future.
