Here to Hear: Why Every Day is R U OK? Day Life's journey takes us through ups and downs, and sometimes, the path can be challenging. Along the way, we often encounter friends, family, colleagues, and even strangers who may be silently navigating their own struggles. R U OK? Day serves as a reminder that meaningful conversations can be a lifeline, but it's a message that should resonate every day. Every day is the day to start those conversations, to connect, and to ask, "Are you OK?" It's not about waiting for someone to reach a breaking point; it's about fostering an environment of empathy, understanding, and support. Changes in what someone is saying or expressing and changes in how someone is behaving or what they're doing are subtle signs that can speak volumes about what someone may be experiencing internally. Hello Friends, I'm sharing a different Wisdom Bites image today because of a powerful conversation I had with my daughter recently. She's currently juggling graduate school and two part-time jobs, with just one paper left to complete this semester. During our conversation, she expressed how overwhelmed and annoyed she felt about school, her classmates, one of her employers, and just about everything generally. As she vented, an image came to my mind: a bathtub overflowing with water, symbolizing how she was filled to the brim with stress and frustration. It was a wake-up call for her when I shared this visualization. She hadn't realized the extent of her emotional state until then. Together, we discussed strategies to 'drain her tub,' to create more internal space for peace and clarity. Thankfully, she had plans to spend a few days at the ocean, her happy place, which would provide her with the opportunity to unwind and recharge. Are you feeling like my daughter? Perhaps you experience it as frustrated and/or easily angered. Take a moment to consider that you may need to pull the plug on your bathtub to create some internal space. However you do it; taking a walk in nature, listening to music, dancing with abandon; writing – it doesn’t matter. What matters is opening up space inside yourself to create more peace allowing you to be more effective in your life.
