Old School Burger Joint: Hamburger Hamlet was the bomb- old school Rat Pack / Celeb feel, aspiring entertainers on work staff making it more fun, great place for the fam, or a date. Sunset and Westwood were my go to's. New School Burger Joint: Shake Shack, the fastest growing fast casual burger joint, decent burger, ok modern vibe, no wait staff, and now in some locations no counter staff, only kiosks. So no human interaction. So you go there to eat. That's it. Now, from a profitability standpoint, Hamburger Hamlet is long gone, while $SHAK is publicly traded on the NYSE trading over $100 per share. Times change, there is no going back to the past, we can only move forward. We know the restaurant industry is moving toward automation and all the reasons why. And we see it in every industry. But before we get rid of everything, and evolve into a non contact species, there are those of us who still want to live and enjoy life, interact and more. Which is why, at least in these next years, it is my opinion that businesses that can integrate optimal technology with true, real human interaction, will thrive. At the least, it's how I want to live my life. Stony Hill Advisors, Inc. is about face to face, boots on the ground, human interaction. And yes we are using, developing, partnering with, and looking to acquire any tech we can to help us be better for both our own use and our clients.

Will it work? That was the question on everyone's mind three years ago as a dozen of us stood huddled in the dark corner of an old, nondescript, empty grocery store. A security guard waited outside to ensure we weren't locked inside this cavernous space and forgotten about forever. As the executives of Northgate Market, the developer, and my team of designers and brand strategists surveyed the drawings on rickety easels, that question—Will it work?—permeated everyone's thinking. The numbers were big, and there was no precedent for this kind of concept. "It will work!" we said with confidence. "It won't be easy to break new ground in the grocery industry, and you'll have to change how you operate, but this void in the market needs filling, and Northgate Market is the ideal organization to make it happen!" Tomorrow is the grand opening of the Mercado Gonzalez in Costa Mesa, California. Nobody's asking, "Will it work anymore?" We know it's going to work because we see the customers waiting outside to get in. The bigger question is how to keep up with the intense demand that a hot new product innovation brings to the market. I was scrolling through Instagram the other day and this was served to me as an ad and I was genuinely confused as to how someone made a decision to use this as the photo that would make someone say "Wow! I really need to go check them out!" Let's start with the fact that the image is very blurry. You can sort of tell that it is a breakfast sandwich, but you could also think that it is a very cheesy burger, which is not great when you're promoting a breakfast spot. The photo also leaves quite a bit to be desired in terms of styling. A blurry breakfast sandwich on a plate by itself won't have anyone grabbing their keys and heading out the door to go try it. How to improve it: The most important fix would be to ensure that the hero item is in focus and being emphasized. I would also add some sides to go with it. Perhaps some crispy hash browns or a bowl of fruit. A cup of coffee or orange juice would go a long way in providing potential customers with an idea of what a full breakfast experience would be like. The second photo is from a shoot I did promoting new breakfast menu items for a popular restaurant in Columbus.
