"Employment Hero grew from 180 staff in Australia at the beginning of the pandemic to 650 by the end of the lockdowns there in October 2021. It now has a headcount of 950. Recruiting at that pace, particularly for technical roles, has been possible only because of the company’s shift to remote working, he said. “When Covid hit and we were working remotely and we realised geography was no longer a constraint to employment, we went from employing the vast majority of our team in Sydney, and having this tiny little talent pool for all the jobs we needed filled, to remote first. Now our talent comes from 19 different countries around the world including the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia and Taiwan. We’re open to working with great engineers wherever we can find them on the planet. They just have to be within the right time zones for us but that’s the only limitation for our recruitment.”

Four types of employees stand for (Dyne’s descriptions): I-Shaped Employees I-shaped employees have a narrow area of expertise and little or no knowledge or experience in other areas. While they may excel in their specific area of expertise, they may struggle to collaborate with others and bring diverse skills to their work. T-Shaped Employees T-shaped employees are specialists in one area with shallow knowledge in other areas. They can be valuable team members who can contribute their deep expertise to the group. Typically, T-shaped employees are more focused and task-oriented. M-Shaped Employees M-shaped employees have deep knowledge in two or more areas. They are adaptable and able to switch between different areas of expertise while also being able to integrate them together. They tend to be more visionary and creative. V-Shaped Employees V-shaped employees have deep knowledge in one area and medium-deep, medium-broad knowledge in adjacent areas. They are versatile and agile and can switch roles and grow.
