Engineers are most likely to turnover 1-5 years into their career. It's almost always preventable. Junior engineers: - Gain skills rapidly - Take on more responsibility - Get promoted every 12-24 months If you're taking on more, it's natural to want a bigger salary or promotion. A lot of the time leaving for a new job feels like the right solution. Impact on the business doesn't always line up with the annual salary review and promotion cycle. On the other hand, the engineers I work with who earn the most: - Are with their companies 5+ years - Have open dialogue with their bosses about long-term goals - Have institutional knowledge of their companies built over years When your value becomes hard to replace - bigger roles, titles, and salary are quick to follow. But if you're a junior engineer who hasn't been-there done-that, the path to get from A to B isn't so clear. Or there wouldn't be so many wondering if the grass is greener at other companies. It's worth a deeper dive to see if conversations are happening with juniors about their goals and what they need to do to reach them. It's the best hack I've seen for reducing turnover.

Stagnant Engineering Salaries - This one is getting some really interesting conversation over on my other channels, from students claiming none of their peers got offered less than $90,000 to experienced engineers encouraging a mix of steady employment and entrepreneurship. What's your take? Transcript: "$73,000 was the median starting salary for engineers when I graduated in 2012. So imagine how horrified I was to learn that the median starting salaries a decade later... were $73,000. For context, inflation has made the dollar about one quarter less valuable in that same time, so that starting salary today is equivalent to $58,000, a $15,000 pay cut. Think about this - While 2012 engineers have been gaining a 3% pay raise per year to "keep up with inflation," new grads have been getting hired on for 2.5% less per year. Dont get me wrong. Engineering is still one of the best college degrees you can get financially, because you only need the four year degree and you still make the highest starting salaries around - the fact that those haven't changed in ten plus years isn't just a problem with this major. So what's the solution? On an individual basis, it goes to show that you can't count on one employer to automatically give you the pay you deserve. Show how good you are and remember that the more senior engineers are being paid way more, and managment knows it. Aside from that, opting for the best paying jobs in the lowest cost of living areas if possible will yield maximum control over your own finances. That's more for another video. Somebody trying to create something impactful || Staff Augmentation || Hiring developers across various tech stacks || Placement Co-ordinator || Building @Yourshelp
“Start where you are, use what you have, and do what you can” Have you seen talented engineers locked into the 'perfect condition' myth? They're waiting for the best tech stack, the perfect project, the highest salary, instead of maximizing the present. Why wait for the best technology when you can master what's at hand? Why hope for the perfect project when the one you're on is waiting to be perfected? Instead of waiting for that big money, why not ask yourself how much value you can create right here, right now? Use all resources, no matter how outdated they may seem. Develop an attitude of constant improvement, of never-ending learning, and watch opportunities knocking at your door. Your company needs doers, not waiters! And of course, the doers get paid more. Nandini Rathi

How to create a salary grade with a practical example? Creating a salary grade involves grouping similar jobs together and assigning a salary range to each group based on factors such as job complexity, skills, and market rates. Let's create a practical example of a salary grade for the Software Engineer position within the tech company: Step 1: Grouping Similar Jobs Identify jobs that are similar in terms of responsibilities, skills, and qualifications. We'll focus on Software Engineers. We may have Junior Software Engineers, Mid-level Software Engineers, and Senior Software Engineers. Step 2: Defining Salary Ranges Determine salary ranges for each group based on factors such as market rates and internal equity. For example: Junior Software Engineer: Market Salary Range: 80,000 - 90,000 per year Internal Equity Adjustment: +/- 10% Salary Grade: Grade 1 Salary Range: 72,000 - 99,000 per year Mid-level Software Engineer: Market Salary Range: 100,000 - 120,000 per year Internal Equity Adjustment: +/- 10% Salary Grade: Grade 2 Salary Range: 90,000 - 132,000 per year Senior Software Engineer: Market Salary Range: 130,000 - 150,000 per year Internal Equity Adjustment: +/- 10% Salary Grade: Grade 3 Salary Range: 117,000 - 165,000 per year Step 3: Consideration of Factors Consider factors such as education, experience, performance, and tenure when assigning employees to salary grades. For example, a Junior Software Engineer with a Master's degree and additional certifications may start at a higher point within the Grade 1 salary range. Step 4: Review and Adjustments Regularly review and adjust salary grades based on changes in market conditions, organizational needs, and performance evaluations. This ensures that the salary structure remains competitive and aligned with the company's goals. #wael_farghaly #Management_Consultant #Management_Consultancy #Personnel #Labor_Law #Social_Insurance #Payroll #Payroll_Operations #GetKnowledge #Get_Knowledge #totalrewards #HR #Human_Resources #HR_Egypt #HR_بالعربىTop of Form

Skills are abilities trained and directed toward specific tasks. Organizations must hire the proper abilities, which are more stable and inherent, in order to have employees who can be trained for required tasks. This article is trying to clarify the need to move away fro generalizations (degrees) and hire ability (critical thinking) and values (professionalism) but the writer confuses the ideas they wish to advance. Time mgt is a trainable skill like financial mgt but may involve certain stable traits to be present in the person hired. Tgis article is a good direction to go but more clarity on what qualities you hire and what you can train is needed and not included in this article. https://lnkd.in/gkFGXact
Most companies have turned to skills-based hiring, but there’s a big problem: Workers are missing 3 key skills they’re looking for — FORTUNE

When I first heard about it, prompt engineering was a mystery to me. I thought the trend would die off with a few cheat sheets. But I keep seeing companies advertising six-figure salaries for prompt engineers, which got me thinking that we should probably start learning more about it... While I can’t offer you a six-figure salary, I can offer you six prompts to help with daily testing efforts (see the carousel below). If you can think of any better ones, or have experience with creating prompts for software engineering, please let me know in the comments — I’m curious. #PromptEngineering #QualityAssurance
