Residential property management isn't just a career for me; it's a profound journey that has enriched my life in countless ways. Six years ago, like many, I stumbled into this industry, unaware of the transformative impact it would have on me. Through it, I've discovered a sense of purpose unlike any other. Every day, I have the privilege of assisting people in making one of the most significant decisions of their lives: finding their home. Witnessing the joy on their faces as they settle into their new space, embark on new chapters, whether it's job promotions, welcoming babies, or adopting puppies, fills my heart with immense satisfaction. It's these moments that remind me why I do what I do—because it's more than just a job; it's a calling. As a Latina in the industry, I've been given a platform to raise my voice and effect change. From starting out in leasing to ascending to the role of Regional Manager in a remarkably short time, I've been supported every step of the way by NM Residential Their belief in me has been a source of motivation and gratitude. Moreover, my career has allowed me to connect with fellow industry professionals, sharing stories, experiences, and insights. Serving as a board member for Latinas In Property Management has given me the opportunity to give back and support other Latinas on their journey. But perhaps what I cherish most about my career is the sense of community and belonging we share. Within the residential property management family, we uplift and support each other, celebrating successes and weathering challenges together. It's this camaraderie that makes every day feel like coming home. Do you know my favorite thing about property management? I get to go to work each day realizing that it's not life or death. We're not saving lives; we're leasing apartments. WAIT - let me explain. I don't use those words as an excuse that this job isn't significant enough to warrant my full effort. I recognize the importance of our industry and the impact of our daily work. We bridge corporate goals with personal lives, assisting people in creating their homes while ensuring business success. Though fire drills happen, we see the results of our efforts clearly. While we don't carry the weight of saving the world, we do have the responsibility to excel for those we serve. Just this month, my team and I were able to: ✅ Increase Immediate Occupancy by 8% ✅ Pre-Lease 15 apartments for the next 60 days ✅ Identify Preferred Employer Opportunities to Maximize Outreach Efficiency BUT we were also able to: ✅ Create balloon arches to celebrate our local baseball team ✅ Host a cookout to welcome people to the area ✅ Show off our dancing skills and hand out candy to kiddos ✅ Plant 14 trees in a local national forest in honor of our new residents So, no - I'm not saving lives. But I'm sure as hell having a good time enriching them... And I think that might just be the point. 😉

Describe briefly what you do. I am the multifamily group manager for Windward Communities (a part of JLAM). 2)           How many years of experience do you have in your field(s)? I have 17 years of multi-family management experience and three years of commercial management experience. 3)           What do you love the most about your career? I love the challenges that each day brings. No two days are ever the same in property management. Providing quality housing and promoting a positive living experience for our residents are very important to me. 4)           Why did you choose to work for JLAM? What year did you join the team? I joined the team in 2019. I was excited by the opportunity to help build a management company from the ground up. 5)           What's your favorite part about working for JLAM? The entire team at JLAM is very supportive and works well together. The atmosphere is very upbeat and positive, and we all share a common goal. 6)           What is one thing people need to know about JLAM they may not know already? We’re a multi-faceted company. We do commercial, residential and multi-family development and management. I think that when people see the sign posted at a new residential community, they may not realize that we do more than develop residential communities. 7)           What do you do for fun outside of work? I like to go to the beach and take day trips around the area. 8)           If you could eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be and why? Roasted beet salad. I have no idea why, but I have been obsessed with it for the past two years! 9)           Where is your favorite place in the world and why? At this point, I would say Curacao. After stopping there on a cruise this year, I was quite taken by the beauty of the island and the friendly atmosphere. 10)        What’s one thing people should know about you that they may not? ☘️Yesterday afternoon I met someone in the Property /facilities management space☘️ -will mention his name at the bottom - ❣️❣️ I KNOW THERE IS OTHER PROPERTY/FACILITIES MANAGERS HERE, LETS ALL FORM OUR COMMUNITY GROUP WITH WHICH WE COULD REGULARLY MEET AND LEARN FROM ONE ANOTHER❣️❣️ There's a saying in Setswana " Dilo makwati di kwatobololwa mo go ba bangwe" simply meaning learn from others. As much as sometimes you feel you are being overloaded by work, sometimes that overload is not enough in the sense that it does not expose you to other vital things you should be exposed to in your role. Because of the culture of your organization, you sometimes find yourself limited to the exposure you really need. However meeting, conversing and showing more interest to want to know more from people already in the same field and role as you can take you a long way. You need to know how others have structured their operations in different organizations and get to establish and appreciate your alignment with theirs and get to be able to spot shortcomings from your place of work. Remember, always strive for personal / professional growth, with information shared , it's really up to you to put in the work, practice the valuable information and to the best of your abilities improve your work environment and align it to what other organizations practice. Yesterday's meeting the discussion was basically about the following: 🌿 Use of property management system: MDA 🌿Tendering Process 🌿 Preparing Property Budgets and what it should include .
