Ad folks: my friend Tony Franklin has a great podcast that shines a light on the experiences of Black Executives. In this latest episode he speaks with Brad Bowling and Bilal S. Akram M.A. CDP SAP from CODE M Magazine, which is dedicated to educating, inspiring, and celebrating people of color. Among the many topics they cover in the interview is the continued struggle that Code M (and likely other minority-owned media) has in capturing ad dollars, a critical revenue source to ensure business viability as well as diverse representation in media. Many agencies and brands made pledges to invest in Black-owned media (or more broadly, minority-owned media) in the wake of George Floyd's murder in 2020 (or even earlier with the launch of BLM back in 2013). Today, I think about 2-4% of US media outlets are Black-owned, and they receive <2% of total ad spending. Both figures are disproportionately low when compared to the influence and reach of Black Americans (~14% of the population, projected $1.8 trillion spending power this year). New Post: ChartCipher’s Analysis of Billboard’s Streaming Songs Chart for 2023: Hip-Hop & Pop on Top - https://lnkd.in/g_mThPsg - What were the most notable highlights regarding the sonic characteristics of hits on Billboard’s Streaming Songs chart in 2023? A.I.-powered hit song analytics platform ChartCipher released its first report Thursday (Feb. 1), spotlighting key findings from Streaming Songs charts dated Jan. 7 through Dec. 30, 2023. In October, ChartCipher launched publicly, as announced jointly by MyPart and Hit Songs Deconstructed. The platform utilizes analytics from 10 of Billboard’s most prominent charts dating to the turn of the century: the Billboard Hot 100, Hot Country Songs, Hot R&amp;B/Hip-Hop Songs, Hot Dance/Electronic Songs, Hot Rock &amp; Alternative Songs, Pop Airplay, Country Airplay, Streaming Songs, Radio Songs and Digital Song Sales. Related AI-Powered Hit Song Analytics Platform ChartCipher Completes Beta Phase 02/01/2024 Here are three takeaways from Chart Cipher’s initial report, reflecting the Streaming Songs chart for 2023. Hip-Hop &amp; Pop on Top Hip-hop and pop were the top genres on Streaming Songs over 2023, each represented in 27% of all entries on the survey in that span. Also in double-digits, country claimed a 20% share and rock, 19%, followed by R&amp;B/soul (9%), Latin (6%) and dance/electronic (3%). Beyond their joint win, pop has remained largely steady this decade, while hip-hop has receded, ChartCipher notes. Hip-hop has dropped from a 58% showing in 2020 to 48% (2021) and 43% (2022), prior to its further fall in 2023; pop placed at 23%, 28% and 28% in 2020-22. Meanwhile, “Country and rock were the biggest gainers of 2023,” according to ChartCipher’s research. “Country’s prominence more than doubled compared to 2022, largely thanks to an influx of hits by Morgan Wallen, Taylor Swift and Zach Bryan. Still making moves and adapting to the ever changing environment and utilizing tools to create and share music through current formats and mediums, content can be consumed and Powerblasted on the various streaming sites. I haven't really done much of anything myself but I've always enjoyed that place that I might describe as the path of the needle which is deep in the grooves of a vinyl record. I remember it from some years ago. There's something there that can spark some creativity. Depending upon what you hear or experience while there AND if you can use that spark to create something new. Powerblast Worldwide seems to reside in that space. That space and place of creativity.
