Adland is broken. The lack of BAME representation in senior leadership doesn’t really hit home until you see the numbers across the board. An industry riding the coattails of “culture” and putting BAME talent in front of the camera but rarely allowing them to be decision makers at the top tables. After all the lip service the industry paid in the promise of becoming a more diverse industry and after all the D&I roles that were created and filled (and subsequently made redundant) in 2020 in the aftermath of George Floyd; it feels like we’ve gone backwards. On top of that, the BAME pay gap is shocking. The hollow attempts at building a more inclusive industry are never more glaring when we’re giving pats on the back to agencies for sharing their depressingly bad D&I numbers. As if that’s bravery. Bravery is doing something about it. We need to stop congratulating the bare minimum and start holding people accountable. If you think this post is about you then it probably is.

📢 #DEIBMoves - Staff Spotlight! Who's that Manager? Meet Millicent Fynn! As a Manager at the Education Department: I primarily support all the family shelter sites and their Children’s Services Coordinators by providing the following resources: Virtual tutoring programs (Learn & Earn/ TAP-In), Children’s & teen programming (Summer Adventure Camp/ Teen Wellness), McKinney-Vento liaison connection and enrollment assistance, School enrollment assistance, CSC trainings and data check-ins, CSC site event collaborations, Client supply needs (car seats, shoes, diapers, wipes, etc.). In short, I’m like a Costco for client family needs and CSC support. My favorite part about working at the Education Department: I get to think outside of the box and be creative in ways to support others effectively in doing my job. I enjoy the fact that I can be in the mix of something I’ve created and see first-hand how it impacts the very people I created it for. Because my department is so versatile, I’ve had to learn how to do things outside of my regular duties, which, in turn, has added to my skillset. Ultimately, I enjoy the team that I’m with; they make work fun on days when I need it to be. A fun fact about me: I have been on 2 game shows. #LifeMovesOrg #StaffSpotlight

Here's a quick report from our founder about the most recent end of course graduation at HMP Wandsworth.
Today I had the privilege (it is always a privilege) to join the StandOut team at our end of course graduation at HMP Wandsworth. What made today different was that for the first time at Wandsworth, the men were able to invite family guests. While not everyone had someone with them, the 'golden thread' that family represent was abundantly clear. Having your mum/dad/sister/niece/nephew joining in celebrating, and for them to hear you talk about the life you want to live differently outside prison, creates a vital accountability bond for post-prison plans. For the StandOut coaches its a chance to get to know family supporters who will be so key when someone gets to the other side of the gates. Our support is offered on an open ended basis, and after the course, is tailored to each individual, journeying alongside them through the good - and the less good - for as long as they need us. Today 10 men reached the end of the course - and the beginning of the next phase of our support. They were motivated, vulnerable, real, driven, and shared their vision and determination. We look forward to seeing their next steps. #Committed #FirstClass #Connected #Champions
