#DidYouKnow Around 40,000 new cases of Lyme disease are reported annually in North America, yet the CDC believes the actual number of people infected each year could be as much as 10 times higher? Lyme poses a serious public health threat, with its victims experiencing a range of symptoms, some of which linger for years or even decades. At the New England Center of Excellence in Vector-Borne Diseases (NEWVEC), headquartered at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, a diverse group of experts is working to answer critical questions about how and where ticks and mosquitoes infect people, how best to stop them, and how to treat Lyme and other vector-borne diseases when they occur.
