As a sponsor of Prevent Blindness’ #IRDMonth, we’re sharing the benefits of #GeneticTesting. Receiving a genetic diagnosis is a fundamental step for those with inherited retinal disease (IRD). In up to 76 percent of people with an IRD, it may even help identify the genetic cause. Learn how you may benefit from genetic testing: https://lnkd.in/e6jhtjXU #JNJRetina

Sometimes it's just one gene that's off to cause severe disease progression and representation. Through my academic training, I also learned (and researched) that age and sex are also big factors. #GeneticTesting will become more integral as targeted and #PersonalizedMedicine come to fruition. Read more about it below!
This #RareDiseaseDay, we’re recognizing the inherited retinal disease (IRD) community, including those living with X-linked retinitis pigmentosa (XLRP), a severe and progressive form of inherited vision loss that affects 1 in 40,000 people worldwide. Early #GeneticTesting may be beneficial for those suspected of having an IRD, like #XLRP, and can be a critical first step in reaching a diagnosis. Treating genetic diseases? A few years ago, this seemed unimaginable, but now it has become a reality. The question now is, how long it will take for this technology to be available in other countries, for different genetic diseases, and at an affordable cost. #crispr #GeneticDiseases #MedicalAdvancements
