This November marks 6 years since I moved my young family from Cincinnati to London. As our global HR team takes strides in eliminating barriers to mobility and fostering a culture of career movement within the organization, I cannot help but reflect on my experience and how immensely grateful I am to be part of an organization that actively supports and encourages career mobility, whether it's spanning oceans, transitioning between divisions and departments, or even exploring opportunities within the broader Munich Re Group.
While my international move was my biggest and most challenging for reasons you can imagine, I am humbled and reminded that some of my biggest learnings came from my earliest experiences in our Claims Department at our specialty primary insurer, American Modern. There, we contributed to helping individuals rebuild their lives—homes, cars, businesses and more—a commitment we referred to as “keeping the promise.” It's the essence of why we dedicate ourselves to this industry: to engage with everything we have and are, to help humankind act braver and better.
As career mobility comes more into focus, I can only encourage people to embrace the opportunity to unlock their potential, pushing the boundaries of one's comfort and area of expertise. I've found that the experiences outside my comfort zone have been the most transformative, shaping not only my professional trajectory but also my personal growth.
