Throughout the year, the Social Security offices give citizens the tools to recognize Social Security-related scams and stop scammers from stealing our money and personal information. Help protect your loved ones and people in your community this Slam the Scam Day by: 1. Educating them about government imposter scams. Tell them they shouldn’t be embarrassed to report if they shared personal information or suffered a financial loss. It is essential to report the scam as quickly as possible.  2. Share the Scam Alert  factsheet with them and help educate others about how to protect themselves.  3. Thank you to all who participated this Fraud Awareness Week focused on investment scams, and those who helped spread the message to stop, think - is that return for real? Complaints about scams are increasing at a worrying rate. This year, we reported almost a third of our investigations related to scams, in which victims' average losses were $57,000. Our annual report showed customer complaints about scams rose 43%, predominated by phishing and investment scams. The evolving nature of scams makes it difficult to anticipate how scammers will try targeting New Zealanders. Notably, investment scams are getting harder to spot. I knew they were gonna pay that ransom. The cybercriminals had them painted into a corner, and the LAST thing they wanted to deal with was leakage of sensitive data all over the internet. local municipalities need to take heed; this is NOT an isolated event. Cybercriminals are deploying social engineering schemes to breach your networks as you read this.
