Ian Hislop asks the question many want the answer to... "Why couldn't you do it so long ago?" #postoffice #horizon Peston makes the point that in the UK there's no mechanism for clawing back compensation. The Financial Industry provides the model. It's striking to witness the ongoing deflection from CrowdStrike and their CEO George Kurtz regarding the recent events. Despite their claims that it wasn't a "cyber attack," the impact on the global society speaks volumes. The aftermath resembled scenes from a disaster movie, yet they hesitate to acknowledge it as a "Security Incident." The lack of transparency regarding the root cause is concerning, fueling suspicions of inadequate testing before implementation. You can see what I mean from this quote from this post: https://lnkd.in/g_eVSeWJ "CrowdStrike is actively working with customers impacted by a defect found in a single content update for Windows hosts. Mac and Linux hosts are not impacted. This is not a security incident or cyberattack." Instead of downplaying the situation with false positivity, embracing accountability and transparency could lead to genuine progress and redemption. Let's prioritize truth over theatrics and work towards a more secure future for all. Watch the video, courtesy of the amazing Philip DeFranco for more insights: https://lnkd.in/g29jAGeZ

About MGM and Caesar cyber attacks, lots of shock and awe... People are saying that the big casinos had neglected (or as some say had non-existent) cyber security, I wouldn't say something like that, I wasn't involved in their recovery or anything like that. Well it's not easy to convey to old school businesses that it's important, and once you're out of aces, things can go bad. We often speak about how cybersecurity awareness is important, yet people still fall for some phishing and vishing. So the question is do we all know that threat exists, what kind of training people got, and what did they achieve with it. Every gambler knows that the secret to surviving is knowing what to throw away and knowing what to keep. We also knew about Okta 2022 breaches, but many users act as if nothing happened. You've got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em, know when to walk away, know when to run... And now the losses, some reports say that casinos lose 4,5 million a day because of it, more than most solutions that could have prevented it... you never count your money, while sittin' at the table. The only thing I'm shocked about is that to some it seems as national critical infrastructure was hit.

Great fireside chat with our founder, Ron Pelletier sharing his life story and genesis and growth of Pondurance. From serving as an officer in the US Army where his career in cybersecurity started with disaster recovery, then going on to help EY's global Cybersecurity efforts, Ron founded Pondurance in 2008 - A cybersecurity firm, meaning that's all we do, not managing IT or infrastructure, we provide a few specific buckets of cybersecurity services - Managed Detection and Response (MDR) (24/7 Monitoring) with an emphasis on the Response piece, being able to take proactive action and quickly respond with a dedicated, best in breed, Incident Response Team. Then there's our cyber advisory services, meaning we can come in and do consultative work - help orgs get off the ground with their cybersecurity program, help optimize their investments, and also help established orgs evaluate their cybersecurity posture against regulatory compliance frameworks like HIPPA, NIST, and PCI Ron's early success and the growth of Pondurance can be attributed to a few key points he highlights throughout the 20 minute youtube video with FocalPoint Advisory Services - Get out of the way, listen to clients, push yourself, put ego aside and solve real cybersecurity issues. 🛡 Reply

BobHadaBabyItsaBoy! Does anyone remember this commercial from the 90's? I think back to it occasionally when evading security controls comes up, such as to gain unauthorized access or exfiltrate data. In this example, a new father uses a payphone to call his wife and tell her the good news: BobHadaBabyItsaBoy! He shares the same message with everyone he knows, using a code only they understand to not have to pay the phone company. What if someone else was listening in on his conversation, and they used other codes? What if they could use that code to access his personal or sensitive accounts or, even worse, his company's network and data? A stretch with this example, I know, but it is fun. #networksecurity #informationsecurity #infosec #cyber #cybercrime #cybersecurity #cybersecurityawareness #securityleadership https://lnkd.in/dtVabU7i
