The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has released a report showing that consumers have lost more than $10 billion to fraud in 2023, a record high, with an increase of 14% from losses in 2022. Last year, the FTC received fraud reports from 2.6 million consumers, a number nearly identical to that of 2022. Imposter scams emerged as the most frequently reported category, witnessing notable upticks in reports involving impersonation of both businesses and government entities.
