On November 15th, the DAC Healthcare System Preparedness #LearningLaboratory convened nearly 500 stakeholders from 45 countries to share insights and opportunities to accelerate #timelydetection and #accuratediagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, as well as learnings from DAC’s Early Detection Blueprint and ongoing collaboration with organizations around the world. Following this convening, DAC calls on governments, healthcare systems, global organizations, the private sector, and other partners to view #brainhealth as a central component of equitable and accessible healthcare and to implement four key actions: 1) Apply the DAC-SP Early Detection Blueprint to strengthen healthcare system preparedness. 2) Expand access to the full range of interventions made possible by timely detection. 3) Research and advance scalable approaches to accurate diagnosis. 4) Accelerate investment and adoption to meet the urgency of the #dementia challenge. In our work in high reliability care, we encourage healthcare organizations to have a true north that incorporates external benchmarks. While not perfect, external benchmarking is an important mechanism to drive quality improvement in a risk-adjusted way using national standards. With lots of discussion about U.S. News Honor Roll around the country this year, it is nice to see some of the positive changes by U.S. News. Congratulations to those who have used this benchmark to drive improvement, whether early or advanced in the journey. With quality and safety metrics worsening nationally over the past 3 years, investment in quality, safety, and high reliability is critically important. With so many challenges in healthcare right now, this work is not an "other". It is the mission and investment in high reliability not only improves outcomes but addresses all of the many challenges we are facing, from financial strain to workforce engagement. #qualityimprovement #patientsafety #highreliability
Congratulations to all who were named to the U.S. News & World Report Honor Roll & Best Hospital Rankings for 2023–2024! There has been much discussion about the role of ratings and rankings in healthcare as of late, and while no rating system is perfect, it remains important that publicly reported outcomes exist as benchmarks for patients. Chartis Chief Medical Officer Andrew Resnick shares, “If you think about a Venn diagram between healthcare ratings and rankings and actual quality, we’ll all agree they don’t overlap 100%. Yet that intersection is an essential focus for making meaningful strides in quality improvement.” Congratulations to those healthcare organizations who have made strides in outcomes, improved in their U.S. News scores, or are early in their journeys, investing in making care better. We’re all in this together. https://bit.ly/3q4Wfj7
