NRECA Senior Vice President of Government Relations Louis Finkel (center) met with NOVEC Acting Vice President of Customer Engagement Lisa Hooker and NOVEC President and CEO Dave Schleicher at NRECA’s Legislative Conference held April 22 -24. More than 2,000 co-op leaders gathered in Washington to advocate on behalf of their members. Legislative priorities included prioritizing the reliability of America’s electric grid and protecting funding that allows co-ops to invest in energy innovation. #CoopsontheHill

These are projects that: 1. Can get through permitting and due diligence in well under a year (vs. 2-5 years for utility projects) 2. Need next to no public or ratepayer capital 3. Relieve congestion on the grid (if the demand side of the equation is managed right) Just need to force some major utilities to change policies and overly conservative assumptions such as static line ratings, planning buffers, and certain regulatory accounting practices baked into the cake since PUHCA 1935.

I just had someone send me this article. This article is one of the most accurate written about my campaign. We are at a time in Texas where we must take action instead of remaining hands off and self reporting. At the same time, we can’t take drastic steps that will kill the industry in Texas, or worse, give the federal government a toehold over our energy sector. We can operate more efficiently and cleaner, while generating higher revenue. https://lnkd.in/gpr-ze3N

Having attended the 2023 AEA conference I highly recommend this event to those working in industries which are currently reliant upon grey (methane-based) ammonia. Ammonia-for-energy is a rapidly emerging market due to its potential to decarbonise some key high-emitting sectors such as maritime shipping and displacing coal-fired power in countries with low-quality renewables. But the historical markets for ammonia-based products such as fertilisers, refrigerants, water treatment and mining explosives all require decarbonisation also, so the learnings and partnering opportunities at this conference are equally valid for the traditional NH3-based industry as they are for the nascent ammonia-for-energy market. Indeed, the opportunities for market diversification and arbitrage between the old and the new are likely to support a number of capital projects in coming years. The 2024 AEA conference will hold something for anyone with an interest in ammonia, be it manufacture, storage, transportation, regulation, emissions management, technology or demand-side use-cases. And if you need any further incentive to sign up, then hey….New Orleans is a fabulous city to visit for a conference! 🎺 🎶 🕺 🦐 🥐
Save the Date for AEA's Annual Conference, November 11-13, 2024, to be held in New Orleans, Louisiana. Last year, over 300 attendees joined us from 150+ member companies and more than a dozen adjacent organizations to discuss technology, safety, policy, financing, and certification. Don’t miss this opportunity to join your AEA community, coming together to drive change in the energy landscape. #ammoniaenergy

There are precedents that the private sector’s engagement with public-sector services help catalyse service efficacy. But adopting a competitive method to award contract to private sector entities can ensure transparency, accountability, efficient use of resources, and sustainable public-private partnership.

Last month, got the opportunity to speak to over 350 industry representatives about FERC Order 1920, and FERC's multi-year effort to adapt traditional transmission planning approaches to meet future system needs. In the context of emerging reliability challenges, such as the changing resource mix and increasing/changing demands, this important FERC action represents a landmark change in the space that promotes a measured development of the transmission system that’s critically needed. A bulk system that would provide additional flexibility and resilience under a wide variety of system conditions. O1920 will require industry to consider an increasingly integrated planning approach to quantify seven distinct benefits when assessing transmission projects, notwithstanding a 20-year timeline under several, distinct scenarios.
