It's been seven years since I went to Parliament to speak with MPs about the need to introduce the Domestic Violence and Abuse Act, on behalf of Women's Aid. Harriet Harman and the other MPs there were warm, empathetic and understood the urgency, yet the Act still took four years to pass. Bills, laws, they take forever, but speaking up and access to safety is immediate. So this is my ask: As the Euros continue, please be aware. Domestic abuse cases rise by 38% when the England men’s team loses at a major tournament. During the Euros in 2021, one support service saw a 79% increase in calls and referrals. For some, including me all those years ago, losing isn't just about dropping league points or missing the Semi's, it's about what happens next, when the TV goes off. If you have a friend, family member or colleague who you suspect ( / know) is mistreating their partner, now or in the future: - Please call them out in a way which is safe for the partner. - Please consider reporting them. - Please forgo your friendship to help the partner. - Please provide a safe space for the partner. If you need help, or you are a family member / friend in need of advice: - 24-hour National Domestic Abuse Helpline - 0808 2000 247 - Visit Refuge.org.uk or WomensAid.org.uk for live chat and support. Image: Me last weekend, happy, healthy, confident ❤️ Quite proud of myself really. Thank you to EVERYONE who helped me get to this point.

You, my dear, are remarkable 🤩 And an absolute YES to the need for heightened awareness and support during the Euros (but also: always)

Terrible to think that behind closed doors due to something as insignificant as the loss of a football match this actually happens, brilliant Nina Sawetz to raise awareness and share the relevant support groups, I shall do the same.

This is an outrageous situation. I'm probably a bit naieve, but I had no idea. Thanks for having the courage to post this. Makes everyone a bit more aware.

I posted something similar the other day as a former Samaritan who had to deal with a massive increase in calls and visits when the football was on - pretty much all domestic abuse related. Thes stats are worrying but what is equally worrying is that a lot of people just don’t want to hear this. This I think is for two reasons 1. It doesn’t impact them 2. It detracts from the camaraderie and general vibe around a tournament such as the Euros. People need to understand that this problem is very real and if they speak properly to people they know there will always be one person who has suffered at the hands of an abuser. I don’t know what the answer is in reducing these stats but I do know more work needs to be done. Xxx

Well said 🙏🏼🙏🏼👍🏼👍🏼🫣🫣 I suffered for almost 14 years after told I HAD to let the abusive ex/🤥🤥 back into the home even though I’d 2 kids under the age of 16 years old - I reported deviant behaviour which was supposedly bcause of the onset of MS 🐂💩🐂💩 - Videoing my Daughterwhen in shower on 🤥🤥 mobile then taping WHEN we was intermittently!! - should I say 🤥🤥 was hiding it at the beginning yet I then felt due to a “feeling” of being watch I turned/stopped for 🤥🤥 to say due to the effects of MS was getting/experiencing difficulty to perform.. NO!! bcause 🤥🤥 was rekindling with 1st love/fiancée yet had made me & my children from previous relationships move out of my parent’s home, reduced my friendships yet extremely happy for me to work my backside off which then moan about the state of house also that nothing he was been done or any going out has a “Family” (Which was due to myself being literally on my back with exhaustion/illness also my own Health had/has gone to the toilet which I’d already gone through 2 butchering of a Hysterectomy for PCOS yet I still got off my backside!!) which a few Months after 🤥🤥 returned to the House literally blew my entire world apart - I eventually got the freedom by myself!
