New York AG forces healthcare firm to invest $1.2 million in cybersecurity after ransomware attack. Here's what you need to know: 1. The state of New York is making healthcare provider Refuah Health Center invest over $1.2 million on cybersecurity and pay a $450,000 penalty following a 2021 ransomware attack that exposed sensitive information of over 250,000 individuals. 2. The ransomware attack was facilitated by Refuah's inadequate data security procedures, such as failing to deactivate inactive user accounts, not using multi-factor authentication, and failing to encrypt patient information. 3. Under the agreement, Refuah will need to implement a multitude of cybersecurity measures, including data encryption and employee access restriction, and conduct regular audits. Moreover, it will have to provide all victims of the 2021 breach a notice if they haven't already received one, and offer all individuals affected credit monitoring services. The security of the data of nearly 13.4 million patients could be affected by a breach at Kaiser Permanente, a care consortium with 40 hospitals and more than 600 medical facilities. Technologies previously embedded into the consortium's online services may have allowed transmission of personal informaton to third-parties through Kaiser Permanente's website and mobile application. Okta announces an increase in credential stuffing attacks targeting Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), Secure Shell protocol (SSH), and authentication systems through anonymizing channels like TOR. Credential stuffing attacks are attempts to access online services utilizing extensive series of usernames and passwords acquired through phishing, malware, or the Dark Web. #DataBreach #KaiserPermanente #Okta #Cybersecurity #CICYBER #CTG #DarkWeb #VPN #Security #InformationSecurity #CredentialStuffing #Phishing #Malware #Healthcare #Authentication #Report #OSINT https://lnkd.in/g2EujSMw

Change #Healthcare has been dominating the news given the impact and magnitude of the #cyberattack they suffered in February. This weekend, claims have been circulating that a #ransomware group known as RansomHub has data belonging to Change Healthcare. RansomHub claims it is not affiliated with the Alpha V ransomware group and claims they have managed to gather four #terabytes of data. While the investigation is ongoing, there is no way to tell if these groups are connected or if Change Healthcare is still vulnerable. Read about the newest Change Healthcare incident here: https://lnkd.in/d2zhCSQh Recovering from an attack casts doubt on daily operational channels a company relies on to keep the lights on. Ensuring that common attack vectors like #email, #file transfers, #web downloads, and portable media are safe to use and can be trusted. The GateScannr Suite leverages Content Disarm and Reconstruction Technology to sanitize files by breaking them down to their base elements, scanning each element, and then reconstructing the file, leaving threat actors no place to hide. 🔒 Cybersecurity Alert: Change Healthcare's $1 Billion Crisis The recent cyberattack on Change Healthcare is stated as one of the most significant incidents against the U.S. healthcare system, with a projected loss of over $1 billion. The ransomware gang were able to exploit stolen credentials as some of Change Healthcare's systems were not safe guarded by Multi-Factor Authentication. Why It Matters? This incident underscores the critical importance of robust security measures like MFA in safeguarding sensitive data. Without MFA, organizations are vulnerable to credential theft and subsequent cyberattacks, leading to devastating financial and reputational damage. What Can You Do? Prioritize data security by implementing an organization-wide MFA setup. MFA adds an essential layer of protection, ensuring that even if credentials are compromised, unauthorized access is prevented. #Cybersecurity #ChangeHealthcare #MFA #DataProtection #HealthcareIndustry #RansomwareAttack #CyberThreats #DataSecurity
