I will be hosting another Roadshow Salon Dinner event in Shanghai on March 1, 2024, with a focus on opportunities for investment in the Chinese beverage industry. The Chinese beverage industry has gone though tremendous change in the past few years, propelled by shifts in consumer preferences and lifestyles, and advances in technology and medicine. Just like with food products, there is an increasing emphasis on healthy drinks, and there is a growing aversion to sugar. We are seeing regular rollouts of new "healthy" sugar substitutes. Coffee and caffeinated drinks are now very mainstream, and growing. Fiber drinks and protein drinks are the next waves and are predicted to very big. Even water itself is being divided into luxury water and ordinary water. But could it be that "new age" drinks will suffer the same fate as alternative proteins in the past couple of years? Furthermore, lots of 1st generation of beverage companies' founders will need to hand over their business in coming years. Combined with the market changes, new consumers trends, this succession planning will prove to be both challenging and a great source of renovation for the industry. This will also trigger additional opportunities for investment. All these changes are producing many new investment opportunities. To tell us about these opportunities we are very lucky to have secured two very prominent beverage industry experts, Curt Ferguson and Greg Cattin, with many years of experience internationally and in China to speak with us. Curt is a former 38 year veteran of The Coca-Cola Company (TCCC), in charge of Greater China, Korea & Mongolia Business Units. This operation covered more than a 1.7 billion population, directly employing more than 51,000 system associates. In 2021, Curt joined as a Managing Partner of Ventech China, he leads Ventech China investing in Consumer Markets, focusing on the fast-growing Chinese Consumer Class. Greg has 25 years of experience working for F&B giants Danone and Nestle in Shanghai, Paris, Beijing, Xiamen and Hong Kong on products including Evian, Kronenbourg 1664, Perrier, Nescafe Ready-To-Drink, Yinlu plant-protein beverages and Jax Coco coconut water.
