Windows Admin in 2024: The Short Version The Windows admin role has evolved into a dynamic mix of cloud and on-premises expertise, automation mastery, and unwavering security vigilance. Here's the gist: 1- Hybrid Environments: Juggling Azure with traditional servers is the new normal. 2- Automation: PowerShell scripting and infrastructure-as-code are essential tools. 3- Security: Zero Trust principles are key: strong passwords, limited access, constant monitoring. 4- Device Management: Tools like Intune or Endpoint Manager help wrangle all those devices. 5- Virtualization & Containers: Simplify app deployment and management with these technologies. To thrive in 2024, you'll need: 1- Cloud Knowledge: Get cozy with Azure. 2- Coding Skills: Master PowerShell. 3- Security Smarts: Be a paranoid (but friendly) protector. 4- Endpoint Expertise: Manage devices like a pro. 5- Virtualization/Container Confidence: Embrace the new tech. "Being a Windows admin today is all about being a tech-savvy problem-solver ready to adapt to constant change. It's a challenging but rewarding role for those who love technology and making things run smoothly." #systemadministration #windows #zerotrust #Systemengineer

Individuals with the Microsoft 70-290 certification demonstrate proficiency in managing and maintaining a Windows Server 2003 environment. They typically possess skills related to: 1. **User and Group Management:** Creating, managing, and troubleshooting user and group accounts. 2. **File and Print Services:** Configuring file and print services, ensuring data access and print functionality. 3. **Server Infrastructure:** Managing servers, including monitoring and optimizing performance. 4. **Network Infrastructure:** Configuring and troubleshooting basic network services like DNS, DHCP, and TCP/IP. 5. **Security:** Implementing and managing security policies, including access control and permissions. 6. **Remote Access:** Configuring and troubleshooting remote access services. Having the 70-290 certification can qualify individuals for roles such as system administrator, network administrator, or technical support specialist focused on Windows Server 2003 environments. It's important to note that Windows Server 2003 has reached its end-of-life, so modern certifications like those for Windows Server 2016 or 2019 are more relevant for current environments.

Windows Administrator L2 Q&A Scenario-Based Questions Q:A user is unable to log in to their account. How would you troubleshoot this issue? A:Start by checking the basics: ensure the user is using the correct username and password. Verify the account is not locked out or disabled in Active Directory. Check if the user’s profile or the machine has connectivity issues with the domain controller. Review event logs for any errors related to authentication and verify group policy settings. Q:You receive an alert that a server’s CPU usage is consistently high. How do you address this? A:Use Task Manager or Resource Monitor to identify processes consuming high CPU. Check if any non-critical processes can be terminated or if there’s a need for performance optimization. Review recent changes or updates that might have affected performance. Consider increasing hardware resources or redistributing workloads if necessary. Q:How do you handle a situation where the AD database has become corrupted? A:First, isolate the affected domain controller to prevent further replication of corrupted data. Boot into DSRM and attempt a restore from a recent backup. If no backup is available, use the Ntdsutil tool to perform an authoritative restore of the database. Ensure that the AD database is healthy before bringing the server back online and re-establish replication.
