NDIS National Workforce Plan: 2021-2025 The National Workforce Plan is to encourage more workers into the NDIS sector. There seems to be a disconnect between the real reasons why more people do not work in this industry. The solutions proposed is largely more of the same, more training and promotion, but not real practical solutions to address the core challenges. A few of the core issues preventing new people from entering the care sector include: 1) Dis-engagement from the Welfare Sector - Job Placement Outcomes for Care Related roles NEED to change. Employment Services should be incentivized FULLY for referring job seekers to NDIS or Aged Care. No more partial outcomes, regardless of hours. This will increase referrals into the sector. 2) Lack of Transport - Create a funding pool for new carers to obtain drivers license, hours, vehicles and comprehensive insurance. Transport is an essential component of care work, and many people are stuck without their own vehicle. (SSI may already be helping with this). 3) Unstable Hours - Repeal Consumer Directed Care to a certain extent to allow organisations to have stability in their client servicing, in turn leading to more stability of hours. Stable hours = stable pay.

The NDIS Review recognises the workforce shortages, and at the same time makes recommendations to take away our freedom to choose unregistered providers. If this recommendation becomes government policy, workforce shortages will be exacerbated, people will be left without support and the cost of supports will increase Bill Shorten https://lnkd.in/gBBNJkY2

Stiltz Homelifts understands the vital role Occupational Therapists and Housing Adaptation Officers play in making sure the lives of individuals facing mobility challenges remain as fulfilled as they can be. In this video a few recent customers, many of whom have benefited from financial assistance to fund their homelift, explain how their independence and quality of life have benefitted as a result. We acknowledge the financial considerations involved in implementing accessibility solutions and believe access to funding concerns shouldn’t compromise safety in the home. We work alongside the client, their OT and other stakeholders to exploring funding avenues such as a Disabled Facilities Grant. This collaborative approach together with the Local Authority, can ease financial concerns for eligible individuals. In many instances, we have liaised directly with authorities to facilitate a smoother process and ensure customers receive the support they need without unnecessary delays or complications. The initiative seeks to empower MHFAs, tackle stigma, and provide ongoing support to those in this crucial role. 🔵 Sodexo’s Starting Fresh programme wins Social Impact & Diversity award Sodexo's Starting Fresh programme, which encourages UK businesses to hire people with convictions, has won the Social Impact and Diversity award at the 2024 Footprint Awards. Launched in March 2023, the initiative leverages Sodexo's experience in managing UK prisons to provide employment opportunities for ex-offenders and offers free guidance to employers. 🔵 Unequal access to sick pay and time off work risks deepening UK’s long-term health crisis Unequal access to Statutory Sick Pay and time off work is worsening the UK's long-term health crisis, warns The Work Foundation. JUST RELEASED – Telling the Sector’s Story – the Ability Roundtable Financial and Workforce Insights White Paper into the NDIS provider sector. You can find the White Paper and Media Release through the publications page on our website: https://lnkd.in/g3tKzyqK What does it say? -Many providers are under significant financial stress – our data tell us 68% of participating organisations reported a loss for the 2021-22 FY, 64% of members expected to operate at a loss for the 2022-23 FY, and predictive analysis suggests this may well rise to 75% for 2023-24 FY. -The NDIA’s Cost Model assumptions do not reflect provider realities – the NDIA Cost Model that informs ‘core supports’ is fundamentally flawed. What this means is that, for many, the cost to employ a worker to support a NDIS participant is greater than what can be claimed with the sector forced to fund the gap. -A call for Independent Pricing - The NDIA Board has a dual responsibility for both setting NDIS pricing and managing the sustainability of the NDIS – a position which can often be conflicted. There is a need for a NDIS Independent Pricing body to review and redesign of the NDIA Cost Model and ongoing price setting to ensure the ongoing viability of the NDIS market. Want to get involved in benchmarking? We will shortly commence our Financial and Workforce Benchmarking for FY23 which will allow your organisation to measure its financial and workforce performance against your peers in the disability sector.
