👉 Ohio plans to reduce workers’ comp rates by 7%. · Ohio’s private employers covered for workplace injuries by the state’s Bureau of Workers’ Compensation are in line for another rate cut, the seventh straight reduction. · The 7% reduction proposed to the agency’s board of directors last week would reduce premiums by $67 million for the fiscal year that starts July 1. The board will act on the proposal at its meeting on Feb. 23. The proposed 7% cut is a statewide average. The actual change a company would receive depends on multiple factors including claim history, the nature of the business, payroll, and participation in bureau programs. Only once since 2011 have rates for private employers gone up and that was in 2017 when rates rose 1.9%.

A closer look at what employment and payroll changes could the "New Deal for Working People" bring to all parties involved in the employment cycle: - Abolishing qualifying service requirements for certain rights such as unfair dismissal and parental leave. - An overall Statutory Sick Pay reform, including removing the 3-day qualifying period and abolishing the minimum level of earnings. - Limiting the one-sided flexibility of 0-hours contracts and introducing an ability for workers to request a regular contract. - Tighten the "fire and re-hire" practice by introducing greater protection for workers who are going through a change in their employment terms. - Granting equal employment rights to "employees" and "casual workers". - Granting the right of a written contract to self-employed. - Remove National Minimum/Living Wage age bands. ... and much more! While this is great that the Dems have introduced the bill, this will not go anywhere most likely. If the shutdown is about "reducing the spend" of government in all aspects which has seen bills in the House that reduce the salary of Cabinet Members to $1, why would the the Republicans actually care about contractors? Having worked through the Shutdowns in 2013, 2018 and 2018-19, contractors will continue to be left out and forced to look at any and all options to maintain staff, cut costs, and deal with the lost revenue despite being a conservative estimate of 1/3 of the workforce supplying labor to the government. For now, as I keep saying, contractors need to communicate, communicate and communicate some more about what Monday looks like.
Are you a federal contractor? What is your plan to protect and retain your employees during these uncertain times? What is your message around their indefinite leave? How will you reinvigorate your workforce when the shutdown is resolved? There are many conversations around this issue. Let's talk. sonja guenther Connor Love Renee Stock #imagovcon #riskmanagement #govcon #fedbiz #workerscompensation
